That part is incredibly optimistic. Anywhere else on here where you can find places the Giants saving money will be made up for by the fact that Lincecum is going to shatter 18M in arb this offseason.

Lincecum's Historic Arbitration Case: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

If he goes to arbitration, he's taking at least $21M with the season he's had.

I don't believe Sabean has EVER been to arb with any player (if I'm wrong, someone please correct me) so I highly doubt Lincecum will be the first. I think a 5 year/$100-120MM deal sounds about right. Timmy isn't all about the max dollar, and he really likes being here in SF.

Interesting factoid: the Giants have scored 13 runs in the last six games (ugh).

One player has driven in 7 of those runs, guess who.

Hint: Cam doesn't think he's worth $3.5MM next year.

If there was actual pay roll flexibility, what free agents do you want?

Now, I may be in the minority here, but I'm not sold on Crisp as a leadoff hitter. Yes, he has 70 steals the last 2 seasons but he has an OBP of .323 this year ad a career .331. His defense is barley average, if that. His arm is no longer a factor.

Torres has 16 steals and a .311 OBP in 150 less ABs, though plays much better/GG defense. That OBP isn't sexy, but Torres has 33 BB, Coco has 39, keep in mind the number of AB's.

FWIW, Coco has a 2 WAR, Torres has a 1.6. I don't see Crisp as much of an upgrade.

If we had to dip into the FA market, I'd rather take a shot at Nate McLouth or Grady Sizemore.

Well that's going to depend on what he and his agent decide. You can bet that both of them know they'll make way more by going to arb or by seeking out a deal in the Sabathia range 7/161. If he does like it in SF and that matters more than the money then he's in a position where he can demand a longer extension with less AAV.

I like this idea. He's probably going to want to rebuild value somehow before rehitting FA if he can. I'd love to take a chance on him for a 1 year deal with maybe $9 if that's how he'd like to rebuild his value.

If the Phillies don't make it to the WS this year, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them let Rollins go in favor of Reyes. Amaro has made it obvious that he wants the Phillies to become the Yankees.

True, those assholes. I guess if he didn't return to Philly, a return home would be ideal. I don't see the odds as very high though.

SFG, all due respect, but you can't know that. The ownership group sets the budget and we've no idea how they view the dead money to RoRo.

Fair enough.

In my humble opinion, I believe that the Giants have decent payroll flexibility. :D

AT&T is one of the worst places to go to rebuild your value (unfortunately).

Dude, I hope you're right. We could sure use some FA help at SS and CF and that money would come in pretty handy.

Now if we can just get Zeets to retire and open up a breakfast place...:hungry:

Opposite is true for pitchers. That's the set up we created.

Rollins will be a Type A free agent, and his numbers are pretty underwhelming for the first round pick we would have to give up to sign him for all of 2 years.

Our farm sucks right now, and I don't think we need to get into the 90's mentality of throwing draft picks away. If its for a mega deal, sure. For Rollins, hell no.

There is no roster flexability. We did the same thing during the Bonds era.Over paid aging vets to fill in gaps instead of building thru the draft. When Bonds wasnt brought back they made this big presentation about rebuilding the Giant way but see for yourself where we stand besides a lucky run in the post season(that ended my own personel 39 year wait for a title)we are once again paying way too much for the aging vets that fill out our roster.Big contracts to Zito,Rowand and Huff never should have been allowed.

Here is the link for the article, scroll down, it is called "Looking Forward" by Scott Mizuno:Just cut and paste since it didnt make direct link.

Beltran agrees.

Huff disagrees.

Maybe Huff is just better at turning it on for the new contract?

Hope so, that means we might get some production out of him next year, his last with the Giants.

Than do you think Philly will offer arb to a player whose "numbers are pretty underwhelming"?

I dont disagree with you, I just think that we have to look at both sides of the equation...
