Deadline is July 31 at 4pm ET. (3pm locally).

I can see Rios & Cotts being shipped out for something of value. (albeit probably not what we all want).
Maybe even a few prospects to "upgrade" said return... (IE - LJ, Sardinas, etc)

For the "playing for next year" trade...
I'd be interested in Lester - with the caveat that he signs an extension.

Last rumor I read was:

Good idea to open a new thread. Thanks.

Your last statement on the A's thread is very true in regards to Rios not having many HRs which could reduce his trade value. Our HR production is nill. I think when you lose power hitters like Cruz and Napoli it makes it a little easier for pitchers to pitch around the few who may be able to hit them out. A pitcher does not really want to let a guy get on base if he knows the guys behind him could hit one out and really cause damage. There is not much of a fear factor for the opponenets pitcher right now against the Rangers.

There's none now that AB has cooled and frankly he's trying to do too much and it's reflected in the number of bad pitches he cuts at IMO.

Some info out on MLBTR:

Also from Davidi’s piece, the Rangers are one of a few clubs who have been sending more scouts to watch the Jays’ short-season Class A team in Vancouver. Righty Miguel Castro, left-hander Jairo Labourt and shortstop Franklin Barreto appear to be drawing the bulk of the scouts’ interest.

Castro is interesting as he is 6-5 195 and does not turn 20 until December. Has a 2.19 at low A. Lobourt was demoted from A to low A but looks like they split his time between starting and relieving at High A. He is 6-4 204. Doing much better as a started a low A.

No thanks on any of those 3. Id rather keep him. They are pitchers, but they're too far away and their stuff isnt that impressive.

While knowing pitching is our greatest need, someone and I believe Donaldson mentioned we also need RBI producers. Adrian and Prince are the biggest ones off hand. Rios probably will be gone. I see this as priority as well. Am I missing something here?

Yeah it was me, re: the RBI guys.

My biggest concern is Prince. If he doesn't come back at 90% or better, we're in some kind of deep trouble. He's already a defensive liability and if he hits at 75% of what we expected....well, holy crap.

And at some point AB is going to go into decline, and since next season will be his 18th, it just might be a lot sooner than later.

I hope others are seriously looking at this especially with Rios being considered gone. Not many left I consider RBI guys. We need to get down to business. Like the bartender said, Git off the table Mabel the quarters for the beer.

We could always go back after Cruz. Problem is he is probably going be pretty expensive. That and both him and Choo in the OF will probably not be desirable. Not to mention we would be stock pilling yet another potential DH. I would love to have him back but I don't think he makes since anyone. Haha I guess I talked myself out of it.

They do have a ways to go so i agree with you there but I would be okay if they were additional pieces in a trade and not the main piece.

Rios isn't really an RBI run producer anyway, at least not to the point he can't be replaced and for cheaper

Losing Rios is a non issue to me, as long as someone steps up or is signed to replace him, I believe there are options in both directions

I agree on Rios completely.

Doesn't make me any less concerned about offense for next season though.

Let's hope Fielder recovers and Beltre maintains. Then, God willing, we get a good bat for RF, Choo gets healthy and adjusted, perhaps we won't be as bad off as I was thinking.

I'd be really interested in taking a run at Melky Cabrera.

I would not have a problem with him. Earlier on the A's thread it was mentioned that Cabrera and Markakais would be good options and I tend to agree with that.

Was 2011 his FA year? I ask b/c that was by far his best RBI year (87), although he's on pace this year for about 80. If he was free in 2011 and now he's free in 2014 and that's his best RBI years, this is concerning.

But he's a good ball player and plays the game hard. Love that about him.

Unfortunately he's about the best option on that list. A very, very weak list... this offseason was always the offseason where I kinda made a mental note that we had to get pitching. There are so many good pitchers that even with our horrible history of signing pitchers, I bet we get one impact guy at least.

Think that was you and me but nonetheless I believe Cruz gets way more than we can give based on the pitching that is going to be needed. Now let's hope some is signed
