Unfortunately he's about the best option on that list. A very, very weak list... this offseason was always the offseason where I kinda made a mental note that we had to get pitching. There are so many good pitchers that even with our horrible history of signing pitchers, I bet we get one impact guy at least.

Better land 2 or we will likely see the same depth issues as this year. Winding says you need 10 pitchers ready to start in ST and he sold us short about 6 this year with that forward thinking

Winding's right too. But this year we had Yu, Holland, Lewis, Perez, Harrison, Scheppers, Ross, Martinez, Tepesch and the auditioning began.

Lol. You just had the same conversation with yourself Donaldson and I had a couple nights ago.

Knew I'd heard this somewhere before.

How'd your bike ride go?

Bowden:

4. Texas Rangers: Sellers

Needs: Starting pitching

Who they could sell: OF Alex Rios and RP Neal Cotts.

What to expect: The Rangers are used to buying this time of year, but president and GM Jon Daniels has no choice but to be a seller this year. There has been a lot of interest in Rios, and getting his salary off the books will give them payroll flexibility in the offseason to put toward rebuilding their starting rotation. Most contending teams are looking for back-of-the-bullpen help, and the Rangers can offer Cotts there.

Trade I’d like to see happen: Rios to the Royals in exchange for minor league starting pitcher Christian Binford. Binford, 21, is 7-5 this year, with a 2.47 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 18 starts between high-A Wilmington and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound right-hander has incredible control and command for his size. I’d like to see the Rangers follow that trade by promoting uber power prospect Joey Gallo to the major leagues and finding out in August and September whether he’ll be able to take over their starting job in right field next year.

Binford is really really good, but I doubt we are interested. He's a top 10 prospect for them, but I think JD is trying to get a power arm. I'd be surprised if he gets more of a control pitcher. If we could manage to squeeze a Zimmer or a Manaea from the Royals, that would be absolutely huge for our system. I've followed both of those guys ever since they were pitching in cape cod.

I'm OK with everything EXCEPT bringing up Gallo. Penciling him into RF for 2015 is way too aggressive. I would much rather he hit I-35 and get in some quality time in Round Rock next season instead.

If we could trade Beltre for a Teixera esque deal, would you do it? I mean, you gotta guy in Gallo who still probably isn't ready, but will be soon. The only problem with that is that if he's gone, then the towel has been thrown in until 2016 or 2017.

At least 2016 or 17. I think even further. I think you hold onto Beltre for another year. He'll have value next year too. Trade him then if we aren't in contention. That gives us more time to evaluate our 3B options.

If someone absolutely blew the doors off I would probably pull the trigger though.

Like you say it would have to be some kind of crazy deal for us otherwise we have given so much in the past and how it can affect the clubhouse chemistry I just think losing Beltre would be the last straw for a while. As of now he has to be the heart and soul of this team.

We need Beltre to start next season. I personally don't see us contending next year unless we have a perfect offseason. As much as I love long ball Lewis for his past contributions, the guy needs to retire. I agree that if we trade Beltre, next season is a rebuilding year by default. If guys heal as expected and we get 2 good pitchers, we might be right back in the mix. A lot of things have to align just right, it's a tall order to say the least.

Not gonna lie DT, even though he comes across as a huge pessimist, I think I agree with him here

Edit: besides the part about colby. I don't think he's going to contribute much, but there's still ample time for him to get his shit together since this season is a bust anyway.

Gallo isn't your future 3B anyway

More likely to be someone like a Profar, but still... same scenario. We have a 3b ready pretty much. If someone offers their top 3 prospects (I'm sure that's what it would take) would you pull it?

One minute we don't have a chance then we do. Runs everything together. True about Clby. Going in circles

I want this team to do well...... We've made a few mistakes the past few years as in signing the wrong guy, letting the wrong guy go, and keeping guys too long. Normally, with our organizational depth, we would be able to overcome that next year no problem, but the unbelievable injury situation combined with the organizational miscues and wrong decisions on player personnel have combined with a farm system that has most of its talent at the bottom levels (Due to deadline trades) to give me a high degree of uncertainty about our ability to contend next year. A solid offseason is needed to tip the scales in that direction.

I'd do it and wouldn't blink an eye. It would cause a storm of pissed off fans but this pitching staff needs to be bolstered. If that appears as "throwing in the towel" then so be it. I want to look long term.

That said - anyone wanting Beltre needs to blow me away. Otherwise - I'm not interested.
