Choo is owed 62M over the next 3 years and is pretty much limited to Dh duties with the occasional rf start, who in the AL would take on that and give anything worth while back? they would expect the Rangers to eat at least 30M and accept minimal return. Hamels has 2 years (one an option year) at 42.5M and he is probably the most likely trade piece but again we would eat a chuck of his salary and get minimal in return. odor is untradeable with his contract 67M over 8 years(i ludes option year) and his poor defense and offense
You would have to help pay a good portion of Choo's salary and a part of Hamels. Odor's numbers are not huge at all.

We probably should have traded all of them at the break when we could have gotten more for them, but they are not worthless trade value-wise now
though.

I don't think we're going to get pieces of that caliber back for any of those players.
If the Rangers had need of each of those players and they were on teams willing to trade for them would you not give up a Mendez or a Jurado for either of them?

That's exactly my point: what "need" does Choo or Odor satisfy for another team? As far as Hamels goes, he might bring two mid-level prospects but not much else.

I guess we may as well release their worthless selves then. lol
didn't say that, just that they are too costly for any team to give quality without the Rangers eating a good deal of their contracts which financially handicaps the Rangers for years just as if they were still with the team

if the other team ate a big chunk of their salary.

Question. If you had to choose between Darvish and Arrieta, which one would you sign. Both are 31.

either would be a win win situation as long as we don't go over 5 years on either

That is understood. We would have to eat close to half of what Choo is owed. I have stated as much most every time I bring Choo's name up in trade talk. That always seems to get lost in the conversation somehow.

It doesn't financially handicap us to pay a portion of a salary instead of all of it.

If I remember correctly there were rumors at the deadline about us trading Choo. Of course that doesn't guarantee anything, but someone must have thought he could be traded. If he isn't good enough to be traded then he probably can't help us any longer. Maybe we should bring back the cry to launch him to the sun again. lol

Arrieta has been awful when pitching in the American League. His ERA went up each of the 4 years he was in our league and finally landed north of 7 in his last portion of a season in the AL. Give me Darvish.

Arrieta's ERA in the 4 years he pitched for an American League club are as follows:

4.06
5.05
6.20
7.23

Just like a lot of other pitchers he found much more success in the NL than he did in the AL.
