Cueto started for the Angels and pitched into the 7th giving up 3 runs. Seems like the Angels like to to rummage through the Ranger’s dumpster.
The Orioles used to do that. Lol

DVD always comes to mind. So much was made about them. Danks and Volquez were above average with other organizations and we got Josh Hamilton I believe for Volquez. Brian Bohannon was disappointing as well.
Main reason I brought up DVD isn't so much based on how they pitched in the minors but there were such high expectations from them and it never worked out.

JD mistakenly traded Danks. He was pretty good.

They brought Volquez along too quickly. He had only pitched 58 innings above A ball when they brought him up. He eventually had a really good year with the Reds, and he had decent success off and on in a fairly long career. He never was close to an ace or anything. I wonder what he would have been had we not rushed him through the system so fast.

Hightly touted as a prospect is one thing. Having success in AA and AAA is often where the men are separated from the boys. As late as when Holland was brought up, the Rangers didn't even get their prospects much time in the upper levels. That probably caused a lot of guys to disappoint over the years.

I have one level of confidence in what guys like Rosario and Drake are doing, but when guys like Teodo and Rocker start doing well in AA it raises my confidence level. Doing well in AAA makes it go up a couple more notches.

Teodo, Rocker and Leiter are doing things that I have not seen very often, if ever, from Rangers pitching prospects. If we get one ace, and a couple of #2s out of them that would be amazing. Will we? I think getting an ace and a #2 from the three of them is likely, myself. I feel confident enough that I would not be signing any starting pitchers to more than a one year deal. We have a lot of possibilities for the middle and bottom of the rotation, as well.

From Tepid and then Evan Grant:

One of baseball’s best traditions. Rehabbing big leaguers buy the post game spread for the minor leaguers. Tonight, courtesy of Mr. deGrom, the RoughRiders will gorge on the wonderful beef offerings from The Capital Grille. Bon appetit, fellas.

DeGrom bought lobster & steak for all the fellas and was quite pleased with his first outing back, save for some command

Max used to recover from injuries faster than normal. Now it looks like he’s jumped the shark and on his way to becoming a broken down jalopy.

After the Opener got done, Mitch Bratt came in and did a fine job.

This was Bratt's 4th outing in AA. He was roughed up in the last two outings, but was really good in this one and the first one.

From Sports Day DMN:

BREAKING: Rangers top prospects Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter are each expected to be promoted.

Rocker will go to Triple-A Round Rock after dominating at Frisco. Meanwhile Leiter is expected to make his next start with Texas.
Kumar Rocker is ready for the next challenge.

And it appears Jack Leiter is, too.

Texas Rangers GM Chris Young confirmed to The Dallas Morning News on Thursday that Rocker, who has allowed one run in 19 2/3 innings since joining Double-A Frisco, will move to Triple-A Round Rock for his next start.

Meanwhile, Rocker’s college chum, Leiter, is expected to join the Rangers rotation, perhaps as early as the next turn of the rotation. A domino of events could lead to Leiter, who pitched Wednesday for Round Rock, sliding into the spot the Rangers had planned for Max Scherzer’s return at Chicago next Wednesday. On Thursday, though, the club said Scherzer’s scheduled rehab start on Friday would be scratched as he continues to deal with shoulder fatigue.

It allows the Rangers the opportunity to start working Leiter into the rotation ahead of the 2025 season and creates an easy way for Rocker to take the next step in his return from elbow surgery. Leiter, who allowed one earned run in 5 2/3 innings for Round Rock Wednesday, has been on the most extended successful stretch of his professional career. Since June 18, he has a 2.70 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 36 innings. His fastball has hit 100 mph on several occasions and, most significantly, his walk rate has dropped sharply. In that stretch, his walk rate has fallen to 8.8%. He had walked 13.8% of hitters in his first 12 games this season, which included three emergency starts in the majors.

“Jack has earned the opportunity,” Young said. “There is nothing left for him to do.”

Said assistant GM Ross Fenstermaker, who oversees player development: “The stuff is better. It’s a step higher now. There is more power to the breaking ball and more consistency [with the fastball].

Even if the Rangers change direction on their next turn of the rotation, which still isn’t completely certain, it appears from Young’s comment that, at most, it would be certain Leiter would join the club by Sept. 1, when rosters can expand by two additional players on the 40-man roster.

I wonder if Rosario will go to AA. Or, maybe Ryan Lobus.
