Santonio's was to win the game
Santonio Holmes's was great, no doubt. I'd still place it as a close second. Yes it was a game winner, but the Giants don't win without that 3rd after Eli nearly went down. IMO, that play was the dagger to the Pats. What was it, two plays later, Plax practically walks into the endzone untouched.

I'd rate Edelman's catch about the same as Kearse's catch two years back. A nice, improbable catch that required a lot of concentration, but a lot of luck as well.

Yeah, maybe I'm not giving Ryan his props. Lets do it like this.

If Ryan had to make that throw 100 times. How many times do you think he would make it?
If Jones had to make that catch 100 times. How many times do you think he would catch it?

If I had to make that throw 100 times. I'm not sure I do it once. If I had to make that catch 100 times. I can't put a number on it except to say. I think I'm much better suited to make the catch. For me, the catch would be easier to make than the throw. For you perhaps its different. Maybe you're better suited go make the throw and not the catch. So from that regard. It was indeed a great throw,

Note: When I'm talking about myself making that throw or catch I'm talking about the best that I was 30 years ago. If I tried doing either right now. I'm 125% confident that the only thing I'd accomplish is pullin a hammy.

good point

how many time in 100 does Edelman make that catch?

The throw to JJ was put in a place where it made for a spectacular catch, but only Jones could make a play on it. Perhaps the defender had bad timing on it but I can't remember. The Edelman catch was more of a fluky bounce based on a poor decision or throw by Brady IIRC.

I would put it top 5 for SB catches that I've watched. Julio's sideline catch too. Tyree's, Kearse's and Santonio's catch might round it out. I'm sure I'm forgetting some great ones but that's off the top of my head.
Im not even sure its top 5. Ball should have been picked.Landed on the falcons legs all he really had to do is pick it up. Far too many spectacular catches in the super bowl I don't even have it in the top 10. Lets not forget some of the greats catches in the super bowl . Lynn Swann's diving catch was epic.Theres many more

Edelmans catch was a Kearse-like fluke for sure. What was amazing about it for me is that he lost control of it and still managed to get his hands underneath it an inch from the ground.

No... He was just slightly too short to put a finger on it. That's all

I was talking about catches that I've seen live. I don't think I was alive when Swann played.

One of my all time favorites. If we are discussing the best catch in post season history. There's just far too many that top it. Holmes in the corner of the end zone for Pittsburgh etc......I will always place skill over luck tho.

That's the best I've seen in my life because of skill and situation.

Thats what I'm saying.Even in the modern era.I know some people will want to make it a little more than it was.Which was a missed pick and a very unlucky drop for the falcons. Landing on their defenseman legs. But there have been far too many highly skilled catches in recent years. You could run an extremely vast list that surpass edelmens catch. Thorough History Its not even close to any of the greats.

Still don't know what the fuck they were looking at.
Over the years the NFL has been pussified and watered down with new rules. It's almost unbearable. To say that wasn't a catch :L They need to go back to just playing football imo smitty

That and Calvins catch that started the whole "process" BS against the Bears are the worst.

And all that garbage definitely has swung my football interests away from the professional level some.

It really is EXTREMELY simple; if the receiver is going to the ground as part of the catch process, he has to retain control of the ball all the way to the ground. Dez' momentum was taking him to the ground, so he couldn't lose the ball when his hand and the ball hit the ground, regardless of how many steps he took as he was falling or if the ball crossed the goal line. Steps only establish a catch alone if the player stays on his feet.

Another great example.I've always preferred college. Over the past years I prefer it even more. The NFL is getting straight up awful. The making a football move after a catch rule is asinine. Its too vague.Determine a football move? Under that criteria compared to Dez and Johnson.Would you say Edelman mad a football move to consider it a catch? They really need to just go back to playing football in the NFL.I'm not fond of judgement calls. Also wouldnt mind seeing college rules in OT its a lot more exciting and balances out.

It was the catch that told me the worm had turned on Pats' bad luck.

Better lucky than good.

And Kearse wasn't in a crowd and could easily have gotten up and scored had not Butler made one of his 3 huge plays in that game to knock him out of bounds.

He made steps after catching the ball. And had control and his other hand between the ball and the turf.

The Edelman play should have been offensive pass interference. He was clearly obstructing the Atlanta defender. From catching the ball with his feet

Seriously the catch rule is so inconsistent it has to go
