He made steps after catching the ball. And had control and his other hand between the ball and the turf.

The Edelman play should have been offensive pass interference. He was clearly obstructing the Atlanta defender. From catching the ball with his feet

Seriously the catch rule is so inconsistent it has to go

As I noted, if the player's momentum is carrying him to the ground while completing the catch, steps don't matter unless determining in bounds status. When Dez's hand holding the ball hits the ground, the ball pops out. No catch.

As noted its a judgement call. And games should not be determined by judgement calls. Just another lame rule thats watering down the game. Get back to real football drop the watered down junk

It's not judgement, they've made it plain and simple. Anyone that doesn't understand it is just refusing to accept the guidelines.

Vague rule based on the officials determination. Of whether a receiver made a football move. Either way it's pointless. And this is far from the only time the rule needed to be "interpreted". Not sure why you enjoy these rules that kill the sport. They make about as much sense as the rams wasting extra draft picks on Goff.

Football move doesn't matter when the player is going to the ground as part of the catch. You're over-complicating the matter.

Goff is just starting out, he will be much better than he was this year. Nice diversion attempt though, lol.

The Dez was falling part is killing me :L Not like theres a major difference between falling. And diving for the goal line :L That rule has to go

All I know is Dez made a brazillion moves with a ball folks will tell you he had no control over.

I saw Cole Beasley make an almost similar play, but he never went up ion the air, he merely had the ball and dove, losing it as it hit the turf, but the call of TD stood.

First he was diving for the goal line. Which is a big time football move. These asinine rules are bad for the game.

Second I'm a USC a fan. I know Goff very well. Struggles under pressure.Makes poor decisions especially when the games on the line. I can run a novel on his faults. I literally shook my head when they wasted those picks on Goff. He's over rated I had Dak ahead of Goff you can go back and revisit that if you would like.

Momentum was to the ground before he dove.
If thats what you want to think to feel better. It was an amazing catch taken away by a lame rule that obviously needs to go. You may want to revisit the multiple other cases the rule removed amazing catches. As well as negatively impacted games

Watching the replay its really not hard to see. Sounds like Dez hate to me. Its a play I've seen a million times .Reciever makes the catch dives for the end zone. Not hard to figure out really

The Immaculate reception by Franco Harris was also a lucky catch.

It really is EXTREMELY simple; if the receiver is going to the ground as part of the catch process, he has to retain control of the ball all the way to the ground. Dez' momentum was taking him to the ground, so he couldn't lose the ball when his hand and the ball hit the ground, regardless of how many steps he took as he was falling or if the ball crossed the goal line. Steps only establish a catch alone if the player stays on his feet.
I beg your pardon?
