By all accounts, Derek Carr is the all-around best QB prospect in this draft pool but because his relationship to David Carr and the fact he played at Fresno leaves him zero media hype and of course all we go by is media hype. In reality we have no idea what each team is thinking, how high they have a guy ranked, and come draft day, we'll all be surprised when teams pull triggers we were unaware the finger was on.

Who knew Ponder and EJ Manual would be top 10 picks when they went?

We all know Johnny Football is a big project at the NFL level and his future is uncertain but it bothers the shit out of me when clowns like JDM roll up with their guarantees...like he knows shit the rest of us don't. It honestly wouldn't surprise me to see Minnesota or Cleveland reach for Manziel because he's some kind of real life Willy Beaman they plan to sell tickets around. It also wouldn't surprise me to see Johnny Manziel fall flat out of the first round because teams see more guaranteed value in other position players and aren't willing to gamble.

But remember when Tebow was "no way in hell" a 1st round pick? How about when Aaron Rodgers plummeted to the end of the 1st round? "Pac 10 quarterbacks always fail in the NFL!" How about Brady Quinn, the quarterback who was "pro ready" and a "high football IQ!"

It's fun to speculate but we don't know shit.

Um....I think it's fair to say Aaron Rodgers learned a LOT about being a QB by sitting behind Brett Farve for a few years. Do you think he would have been this good as a rookie?

Aaron Rodgers doesn't play quarterback at all like Brett Farve did. There's obviously a better understanding of the game after watching for a few years but Rodgers came into the league with the mechanics and the intangibles necessary.

He will never give up his nonsense TNT. I even offered up a bet to him and he wouldn't take it. Just proves he doesn't really stand by his convictions.

There's no way to measure a bet. I've already stated that unfamiliarity allows bad rookies to make a splash on occasion, and that there is no statistic that comes close to proving someone was the worst QB in the league.

In five years there is a probability of zero that Manziel is on a roster. It cannot happen under any circumstances. It isn't possible.

Apologies but there's no way you'll ever convince me that Aaron sat behind Brett for 4 years and learned nothing whatsoever.

Rodgers would not have started off like this as a rookie.

Whether or not Manziel succeeds will depend upon a lot of factors.

Yes, he's got skill - mainly speed, that will allow him to create plays.

There are also many questions around him...

Maturity. Can he handle having the keys to the offense? If he loses a game will he throw his team under the bus?

Trust. He tends to make bad choices when he panics and throws up a prayer.

Durability. With his style of play, he's going to take a pounding. Can he endure it, ala Big Ben, or will he be oft injured, ala Michael Vick?

Will the team that drafts him try to forge him into a pure pocket passer - a step he'll eventually need to make anyway if he wants an actual career?

Will he be the bell cow of the offense, like a Peyton Manning, or will he be more of a game manager - assuming he's drafted by a team with a great running game and solid defense?

Sanchez was at his best in NY when Greene was running the ball and the defense was making stops, and all he had to do was make a few throws. As soon as NY tried to put the emphasis on Sanchez, things got progressively worse - leading to the 'butt fumble'.

There's a lot that will determine whether or not the kid makes it in the NFL. Some of that depends upon the franchise - which none of us can predict.

But some of that is on him. Maturity, the choices he makes with the ball (will he be like Geno Smith of last year?), how will he respond to a loss, can he stay healthy?

They're questions that make most of us balk - at least at the thought of spending a #1 pick on him.

I think, realistically, he's more of a 3rd round pick but someone will use a #1 on him.

I wouldn't draft him at all. The maturity issues stand out most to me. I don't think the kid is going to want to change his style - he's to full of himself. I think he's all about him.

And I'm not alone. The results of the poll thus far are 2:1 against drafting him.

Agreed! Except for Carr being the best prospect. I think Bortles > Carr, but that's just another opinion. I agree it is all speculation, but there is an alarming amount of cons in Manziel's case. I think if he didn't have the receivers he did at TA&M then he wouldn't even be considered a draft prospect. His heave & pray style won't get him anywhere in the NFL. Like many have already stated before, he is basically a more athletic Kellen Moore.

Wasn't a JF fan while watching him play at A&M. All I could see was a guy running around every which way and making plays. I thought at some point, I would see a team face him and keep him contained for 60 mins, rarely happened. Boy possesses intangibles that can't be taught. Could care less about his size, most of JF happens outside the pocket anyways. And that doesn't even include the variety of "arm actions" he uses when throwing downfield.

No doubt this guy is a gamble, but who isn't in the 1st round?

I wouldn't mind if Minny took him with the #8 pick. As far as I can see there is nothing better at that point. LBs and WR are a dime a dozen and can be picked up in later rounds. To much emphasis is being placed on what happens off the field rather than what JF does on the field. Maturity? Yeah, but the kids young and from my own experiences, I have done far worse than make a few tweets, go to parties and sit courtside by his age.

Some players are worth a gamble, in my OP this player is.

Wouldn't be a bad pick for Mini-soda. With Peterson in the backfield it would make it so that JM isn't the bell cow of the offense.

Johnny Manziel to file for new trademark

Former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel continues to set himself up to cash in on his future. In line to eventually secure a "Johnny Football" trademark, Manziel's team filed for more trademarks recently, including "The House That Johnny Built."

But just like the trademark for "Johnny Football," Manziel is actually second in line, and the person who is first might raise eyebrows among Aggies fans.

Fitch Estate Sales, a company owned by the family of Nate Fitch, Manziel's friend who was with the quarterback at many of the autograph signings that resulted in a half-game suspension, was first to the phrase.

Fitch's mother, Rachel, declined to comment. Her attorney, Gerald Fowler, told ESPN.com that it was his understanding that Nate and Johnny were going to use the trademark together.

Dont freak out cowboys fans.

But I could see Jerry wanting the attraction of manziel, and romo has been good, but highly criticized and aging....
Could the cowboys want the local product to bring the fans to the circus that is jerry world???

thats what you want.

Im not asking that. Im asking about jerry

With Jerry, who knows. I think this draft sets up perfectly for the Cowboys, in that of our biggest needs, DL, S and OL, there is gonna be a top prospect sitting there for them. If Jerry goes off reservation in the 1st round, I'm betting it's for a guy like Maziel's teammate Mike Evans if he were to fall to 16, or maybe Ebron. I wouldn't mind seeing Dallas go QB as high as the 3rd round for Murray, but you're right, with Jerry.....

i just could see him wanting the attraction.......

The only way I think Jerry may go that route would be if Romo's back is much worse than is being reported. I still think the Cowboys go D in the first couple of rounds, but if Romo's back is really jacked up, then yeah, that's a Jerry type move. The way Stephen gushed over Manziel does give me pause

Not at all lol. True story, I was working for a company in the 90's , and our GM lost his father. Two of his fathers closest friends were T Boone Pickens and Jerry Jones, and both were at the funeral. Jerry told some folks there that the Cowboys were about to deal H Walker, which of course was huge news. A few days later, the deal went down. So no, Jerry's nickname isn't ''Stealth Mode'' lol

If that happens, the Cowboys board is going to explode

Forget the board. My head will explode.

Any of you ever see those videos of Raiders fans watching the draft, where they're expecting the team to sign a guy they need that dropped to them, and they then draft some dude nobody was expecting? The LOOK on their faces.......yeah, I'm at a point where I don't expect Jerry to actually draft the player at the right spot.....my expectations are low enough as is.

I had that moment just last season as I was 100% certain Larry Warford had fallen in our laps in the 2nd round and I heard the words ''Gavin Escobar'' instead....
