Whoops, I meant this :puke:

The Giants need offense, but even with a lot of his contract covered, it feels like they overpaid by a lot for Beltran.

Not if the Braves were making offers too.

This is exactly how most felt about trading Alderson. Wheeler is not in any way a lock, and he's years away from helping. We'll find someone else to take Zito's spot.

The 2008 Carlos Quentin, sure. The 2009/10 Carlos Quentin? Hell no.

Dude is maddeningly inconsistent, but is having a very nice year.

If Sabes is going to give up Wheeler, he knows what he's doing.

His hand was forced by the McCann injury I think...and then, well before that, by the Sanchez and Posey injuries.

Injuries suck. They cost you prospects.

LOL. Maybe Wheeler will struggle with the Mets, play in Japan, return to the Giants in 2021, become an All Star that year, and lead the league in ERA.

Rep!

I'll say it again, Giants should move Schierholtz to CF.

If it means putting Beltran in right, I'd rather see Beltran in center. I realize center field at at&t is vast and Beltran is old, but right field at at&t is one of the most difficult places to play and Nate knows that corner well.

That being said, I think Beltran should play left with the occasional night in center; Torres should play center; Ross should move to all three places in the OF on any given night and Schierholtz should stick to RF.

Rowand can stick to the bench and occasional PH duty.

So when the Giants sign Beltran to a three year deal next year, are we going to reformulate this as Wheeler for Beltran trade, rather than a Wheeler for 60 games of Beltran?

Nate has more value as a CF going forward. His bat plays better there. But yeah, any way you want to mix Ross, Beltran, Schierholtz this year is okay with me. Obviously, I'm losing faith in Torres's ability to hit, and I'm willing to give a little on D.

This is true, the McCann injury probably caused the Braves to make somebody like Delgado available, which Sabean countered with Wheeler. For this season we are better (although OF isn't an area where an upgrade was that necessary.) Here's to a repeat!

This makes me question the future of 3 guys in the franchise. Surkamp (do the Giants see him as better than a number 4 starter, and is he now untouchable?) Sanchez (are the Giants planning on resigning him along with Cain and Lincecum?) and Belt (since Huff has to sit in order for him to have a position, is he headed back to Fresno?)

To me, this means the Giants are gong to sign timmy and cain to long-term deals. Either that or Baggs is correct - that Wheeler's internal evaluation has dropped.

I think (and hope) you're right with this.

There must be something we don't know about Rasmus...I don't get it.

Agreed, looks like it could be daddy issues (if you take a lawyer at his word anyway :D).

looks like the terms are Wheeler for Beltran, Giants get 5Mil in salary relief.

Is this now the confirmed coup for the Mets?

I know what you're saying. I too am losing faith that Torres was anything more than a one-year wonder. I just don't want Beltran anywhere near RF, and since we all know Schierholtz understands the walls in right and has a cannon for an arm, I kinda like him out there.

Move Schierholtz to center next season, once Beltran is gone.

Also Torres and Nate can sit against lefties.

And you're not stoked to get Beltran?

Not particularly. I cannot say I am upset, because I am not. It's just that of the OF on the market (officially or in rumors) Beltran was my fourth or fifth favorite target. I know the Giants need a stick and now that Beltran is here, I am going to root for him as hard as any, but if I had my choice, I would have rather Sabean gone after Rasmus or Pence or even Carlos Quentin. All are under 30 and all would still be in SF next season. Beltran is 34 and with Bor-ass as his agent, he will go wherever the money takes him. Since SF cannot offer him arbitration, I don't see him sticking around next year.
