Cards got a solid starter (rental) which they needed badly, and a decent RP, and other warm bodies.

I think the McCann injury and the Braves asking about Beltran made our untouchables touchable.

Yeah, you're probably right.

CSN BA is now reporting it's Peguero and Culberson for Beltran? Ummm, can we get this finalized?

I'd do that deal for Rasmus in a heartbeat. He's only 24, I think he's going to be a star in the league.

Fair enough. I agree that would be a good deal for the future. I'm certainly less antsy about championships in my lifetime since last year, but losing a starter and one of the Giants' best middle relievers would likely hurt the chances of a repeat more than the influx of offense that Rasmus would provide this year.

That's what the hell I'm saying Heath!

I'm pretty sure the Giants would be picking up the rest of Beltran's contract with that one... and maybe kicking down another few mil to keep the Wilpons out of their version of the poor house.

Just remember folks - Beltran's no-trade clause prevents him from accepting a deal for 24 hours after it is completed, so even if Sabean and Alderson have completed details, Beltran cannot officially waive his no trade clause until tomorrow.

Hurry up and wait, boys.

If that's Mychael Urban reporting....I'd take it with a large dose of salt. Although, you'd think they'd be in the best position to know.

Maybe the Mets are floating the wheeler rumor, so they can pry the Brave's best pitching prospect from them in a last second deal.

Rasmus gets traded to the Blue Jays for what sounds like a stick of bubblegum and a sack of marbles. I wish we could have got him.

Looks like we gave up an 'untouchable' for Beltran, I hope he makes this rental worthwhile.

There must be something we don't know about Rasmus...I don't get it.

Yeah. Definitely not Sandy's first rodeo. Interesting mind/media games. I think you're on to something with this one, but it has also softened the blow of possibly losing Wheeler, while making for a celebration if the Giants give up someone else. The only sad scenario would be if the Braves do swoop in and grab Beltran... but then, there is always B.J. Upton.

The Cards have fucked the pooch six ways to Sunday on the Rasmus situation. They ran him down so frequently in the media that they were dealing from a position of extreme weakness. They got crap for him. The the Jays can figure out how to coexist with his Dad, they got a steal.

I would be OK with this deal. I have 0 faith in Culby, so he is a filler, in my mind. Peguero, I like, but for a bat like Beltran, he is worth it.

I would be surprised if that is all it costs, though. Then again, with no FA compensation for Beltran, that REALLY drops his value...

I guess we have to give up something valuable in order to get something valuable in return, but I'm really hopin' Wheeler's not part of this. The anticipated 6 years of excellent pitching production is too much to give up for a 2-month rental, IMHO. Even if we resigned Beltran, how much production can we expect out of an aging vet? Beltran might wind up having a 2012 season similar to what we are seeing in Huff so far in the 2011 season. I'm still crossing my fingers that Huff will turn it around.

I guess it will all be worth it in the end if we repeat. That would be super special. I will support Sabes and the rest of the brain trust no matter what they decide.

If nothing else, getting Beltran means the Phillies won't get him. We don't need the Phillies to get any stronger.
