Sounds like we're definitely giving up one of the previously listed "untouchables." Olney reporting that he thinks it's Wheeler. Ken Davidoff reporting that it's Brown along with two other prospects.

I have to assume that Beltran plays in left, with Ross possibly getting some looks in center and right.

Fuck...I hope it's not Wheeler.

So does Beltran play left with Schierholtz and Ross sharing duties in right? I sure as hell don't want to see Beltran's old legs trying to play right field.

Maybe Ross, Nate and Torres all share CF/RF duties while Beltran plays everyday in left?

Could be Wheeler? I might end up being kind of bummed by getting Beltran, but I won't know how bummed I should be for another 2-3 years. By then, it will have subsided a bit, so was I ever bummed at all? I wish Buster and Freddy were playing.

More reports flowing in that it's Wheeler and not Brown.

@Joelsherman1
Joel Sherman
As @Buster_ESPN 1st reported, appears #Mets r getting Wheeler. Official involved just told me Brown and Sanchez r not in deal #Giants

So, the good news, sounds like we'll be inserting Beltran into the lineup within the next day or two, the bad news, we might be sort of maybe bummed a few years down the line, lol.

And for what it's worth, if it softens the blow at all:

@extrabaggs
Andrew Baggarly
If Giants give up Wheeler, good indication internal evaluations about his stuff/ceiling had fallen.

Lets hope they're right!

Rasmus gets traded to the Blue Jays for what sounds like a stick of bubblegum and a sack of marbles. I wish we could have got him.

Looks like we gave up an 'untouchable' for Beltran, I hope he makes this rental worthwhile.

Sounds like Wheeler for sure. Beltran will be a good help for the Giants offense.

Yup. But if it is for Wheeler.....the much needed help will come at a steep price.

I guess it's the price you pay for getting what you need. Not much you can do. The move makes them stronger now not later. Can't always have both I guess. Time will tell just how good a move it really is.

Rep for a nice post all the way around.

In a way you could say Scott Cousins cost us Wheeler (or Brown). This is what injuries make you do.

Even McCann's injury has seemingly played a role.

Also, not a zero % chance that Wheeler = Tim Alderson II.

I almost would rather lose Wheeler than Brown, considering how hard it seems to find a CF and leadoff hitter and how well we draft and develop pitchers.

What would the Giants equivalent to Jackson/Rzepczynski/Dotel/Patterson be? Durrty/Runzler/RamRam/Ross? Would you give that up for Rasmus/Miller/Tallet/Waters?

As much as I enjoyed watching Wheeler pitch and hoped he would become the Giants' ace at the back of the rotation, they do lose nothing from the big club right now or the foreseeable future, so yay? I guess I would rather have Rasmus under team control than lose Wheeler for a rental, but hopefully, he goes all Tim Alderson on the Mets. We'll see.

Cards got a solid starter (rental) which they needed badly, and a decent RP, and other warm bodies.

I think the McCann injury and the Braves asking about Beltran made our untouchables touchable.

To me, this means the Giants are gong to sign timmy and cain to long-term deals. Either that or Baggs is correct - that Wheeler's internal evaluation has dropped.

San Francisco Giants closer to deal for New York Mets' Carlos Beltran, sources say - ESPN New York

Kinda bummed about Wheeler, but his control issues and 3.99 ERA with 4+ walks on average is what got him the boot?

I keep hearing on KNBR that Wheeler and a "couple" of other players are going to NYM. Anyone else hear this?

More than Wheeler for a rental seems excessive, even if it is Beltran. Unless there is another player or prospect coming back from the Mets, I hope this is untrue, but yes, I've read that a couple of places, too.

I'd do that deal for Rasmus in a heartbeat. He's only 24, I think he's going to be a star in the league.
