I get it, but that's not exactly how it works. The kid is under contract still for 2 more seasons and under team control for at least 6 more seasons. We can sign him to a bridge deal after his 3 year entry level contract and then extend him 8 seasons after that or just extend him 8 seasons right after his entry level deal.

So, you can have 3 contracts and 14 years of Michkov or 2 contracts and 11 years of Michkov, depending on how you arrange it. He would be an UFA at the end of each scenario and could then test the free agent market if he decided to.

Right now, I'm pretty damn sure it's way too early for either party to be discussing the terms of his next contract. We're not going to lose the kid, no worries. He will be a RFA until he has accrued 7 Nhl seasons or is age 27 or older. That's a long way off from now and nobody knows what the franchise will look like then or what position we'll be in. Nobody knows how good he'll be by that point either. Hell, we don't even know what the Nhl cap limit will be at that stage.
I get how it all works, but from what I've seen, this kid is the real deal. Whatever er it takes to keep him tied to us is what I want management to focus on. I'd also like to get another good playmaker to play with him from time to time, not saying the few we have now are bad, but more is better.

24. Philadelphia Flyers

2025-26 salaries: $75 million
RFAs estimate: $17 million
Dead money: $11.6 million (Ryan Ellis LTIR; Kevin Hayes retention; Cam Atkinson buyout)

Notable UFAs: None
Projected cap space: $8 million (30th)

Biggest decision: Is now the time to help the roster make a playoff push before the deadline?

That is a lot of dead money. The good news is Ellis can go off the books on LTIR if they need the space, and the other black marks only have one season remaining, as the Flyers attempt to exit rebuild mode.

What makes their cap situation difficult to read is that while they have 19 players signed for next season, they’re also clearly looking hard at the trade market. They also have a lot of RFAs who need new contracts, contracts that could end up eating up much of their 2025-26 flexibility. And it’s unclear what exactly Morgan Frost, Tyson Foerster, Jamie Drysdale and Ivan Fedotov are going to become as NHLers.

Philadelphia also has a handful of overpriced veterans sprinkled on its cap sheet beyond this season (i.e. Sean Couturier and Rasmus Ristolainen), deals that take away from some of the positives like the play of Calder candidate Matvei Michkov and young defensemen Cam York and Emil Andrae.

The future looks bright, depending on how the Flyers navigate these financial hurdles over the next eight months.

Definitely still on board with moving Risto, would also like to add Laughton to that list of movable parts to.

At the start of the year, I was on the tank bandwagon.

Now.... I need more time to see what we actually have, especially with Ersson back in net.

My fear is that those late 1st round picks and early 2nd round picks aren't going to translate into key players right away.

So, we have to trust that the Flyers management will make the right trades in the next year or two and there is no track record for that.
I didn't mind passing on Jiricek, as I've read that Columbus was reluctant to trade him within the Metro and was asking for more from us.

But, that's the type of trade that I want them to make and we have the assets to make it.

It would be nice to have a number one center to play with him.

I love the last line that says the future looks bright depending on a few hurdles. Lets go Danny B you can do this!!!

There's no real rush, but I would say that we need to hit on at least two of the following three to start eventually competing for Cups:

1. A top line, playmaking center. I give Couturier props for overcoming tons of devastating injuries and really gutting it out now in all situations, but he's not a 100+ point dude. He is great positionally, defensively and in the faceoff circle, without question. I think he's a winner too and a leader by example.

2. A top line, goal scoring left winger. I don't think Farabee is that guy, and if he is, he needs to start showing it asap.

3. An elite defenseman that can play in all situations and log 24+ minutes. Idk that Sanheim or York is that guy either.

Now...we do have 6 picks within the first 2 rounds of the next draft to help make that happen.

I would think Fedotov. If both keep playing well, I'm good with either one. Hopefully Kolosov will get more seasoning in the minors and keeps getting better and more confident.
Kolosov was awesome in his last start.

Both goalies were insane it was a fun one.
