So you are saying that there has been a recent trend in the last 20 years to disregard the season results? (I don’t think that includes Nebraska)
No it doesnt disregard it.....

Oklahoma State and Ohio State shouldnt lose to shitty teams. The object is to get the best teams in the Championship games....and in 2011 and 2017 Bama proved they were the best.

I have it on good authority Clemson didn’t want to be there, just like Auburn

Couldn't get up for a playoff game?

You've kind of missed the boat on motivations. Fact of the matter is, getting sent to the real Sugar bowl is depressing for most SEC teams. It means you had a team that looked good enough to contend, but you didn't make it.

They proved they were the best because they were given an opportunity the others weren’t. Alabama shouldn’t have lost to a shitty Auburn team last year (by the way I do believe they should have went) and they shouldn’t have lost at home to LSU in 2011 (given the system at the time I do not believe they should have been given the rematch).

So if you qualify it with your opinion it’s all good? I would be fine with your “preserve the season” comment, if you qualified that. Just be honest and say “preserve the seaso unless it helps out Bama”. You are fan, so that makes sense. No need to try and BS yourself and me with that “preserve the season” crap

Or maybe it is pointing out what a lame thing that is to say. Not to mention how easy it is to say, despite having absolutely no factual basis for the comment.

Nebraska,Oklahoma, and Ohio State all got the same shot Alabama got....only difference is Alabama proved they belonged both times while the other 3 were proved as frauds. But Bama is the only one that gets hate.

Yea Bama is the only one who catches shit.

Seriously?

It's been almost 20 years on Ou/Nebraska there's a recency bias there.

But OU got destroyed by KSU. It called into question the metrics used.

Imagine if the BCS has done the “right thing” and let the obviously “two best teams” play each other in 2006 and had a rematch of Ohio State and Michigan. That is the logic being used in 2011.

Wasn't that the last game either played in before the BCS?

Seems more like Alabama Georgia this year.

But they were the best two teams in the country that season. It was decided by a field goal in overtime so they should have played again for the national title.

I guess I'm just not following because everyone had Florida #2 for the BCS, and of course the results.

Results shouldn’t matter though. Had the Big Ten had their top two teams hidden from everyone else we wouldn’t have known that a rematch was wrong. Using the fact that Alabama won as proof is Not correct. Both teams could have been blown out had they not been hidden from playing anyone out of conference.

I agree on not apply the results after the fact, but I mean Florida was seen as #2 so I'm just not following.

Florida lost to an 11-2 AuBarn team.....Oklahoma State lost to 6-6 Iowa State.

Also Ohio State controlled that whole football game and lead by Double Digits most of it. Michigan scored a late TD to make it a 3point point game.

Bama dominated LSU and missed 1000 FGs allowing LSU to win.

Hope it gains some steam. I think it would be great for CFB but I am absolutely positive it won't happen for a long time.

But 8 is the max IMO. Anymore than that would hurt the regular season....

Revisionist history is a class I never took. Bama dominated to the tune of 290 yards to 245 in total offense. They missed 2 50+ yard FGs and a 44 yard FG. They had a 49 yard FG blocked. Given the way the 2 defenses played that day and Bama’s poor FG unit, those were more on the coaching staff than the kicker.

How is his opinion different from yours?

He has his criteria for “deserving” and you have yours. Neither is objectively anything more than pure opinion.

The 06/11 comparison isn’t apt. The difference is that Michigan did NOT dominate all of their 11 wins. 2011 Bama did. LSU also dominated every team other than Bama, and that included beating the P12 and BE champs. Okie St. had a couple of close calls in addition to losing to a 6-6 ISU team.

One certainly can argue that Okie St. won their conference, and that was enough to be deserving. Or one can argue they played a tougher schedule (which is debatable). But either of those are criteria given different weights by different people. It all came down to opinion, and the opinion of the vast majority that mattered felt Bama should be in the BCSCG.

I’m not a fan of going to 8 teams and I’m absolutely against autobids to the playoffs for conference champs.

Voting a team in is even more bullshit. Auto bids are the only way to go because everything else is nothing more than a beauty contest where people vote for the team they like .... just because.
