I don’t think it’s going to change how teams are actually playing in the playoffs. They aren’t better because they play an 8 game schedule, they are better because they are better.

Their resume and sos being higher can absolutely be attributed to playing 8 instead of 9 in most cases. An since really it’s an eye test, those things matter in a resume.

Should expand it to 5. Have the winner of the ACC, B1G, the Pac 12 and the No Defense 12 play then the winner plays Alabama.

I’m not debating any of that here. I’m just saying I don’t get Delany’s position. This year, tOSU surely would be in an 8-team playoff. I don’t see any reason he would consider that a “negative”.

Rose Bowl. That's all. That's what he cares about. He wants his conference in the Rose Bowl.

I am fine with 8 teams. I would prefer if they did an RPI or Colley Matrix or Anderson & Hester like system to rate all the teams. This way the results would be objective rather than subjective.

But I am okay with the following concept/s:

A committee ranks the top 25 teams.

Conference champions from the ACC, Big-10, Big-12, Pac-12, and SEC gets an automatic playoff spot, if ranked in the top 12 or top 16. The highest rated Group of Five Conference Champion gets in, if ranked in that range. The remaining spots gets filled up by the highest ranked at-large schools.

Any bubble team left out would get invites to major runner-up bowl games.

The system will run into problems if they "guarantee" that all power conference champions gets in, when you have 10 conferences in play.

At the end of the day, you have to keep it as elite as possible. Having a 4-8 bumper zone/margin of error works well.

If we went by AP rankings, our playoff teams would be:

2018
#9 Washington at #1 Alabama
#7 Central Florida at #2 Clemson
#6 Ohio State at #3 Notre Dame
#5 Georgia at #4 Oklahoma
LO - Michigan

2017
#10 Central Florida at #1 Clemson
#8 Southern California at #2 Oklahoma
#6 Wisconsin at #3 Georgia

#7 Oklahoma at #2 Ohio State
#6 Michigan at #3 Clemson
