Expanding would have added at least 4 B1G teams to the playoffs. Having it be at 4 teams only hurts the B1G.

No doubt. Going to 8 virtually guarantees at least 1 team from each P5 conference getting in.

I'd be ok with an auto bid IF they got rid of divisions and conference championships were played between the 2 actual best teams in the conference.
Funnily, had they done this, three CCG would be the same (ACC, Big12, and SEC). The other two would be games played back to back (Ohio State vs Michigan and Washington vs Washington State).

Fine with 8 as long as no auto bids and an auto G5 team making it.
I don’t think there should be an autobid for G5. Not every year does a G5 deserve it. 2015 the highest ranked was a #18 Houston and in 2014 the highest ranked G5 was #20 Boise State.

I feel fairly certain that unless ESPN is interested in an 8 team playoff this is going nowhere.

I am, but either way Delany’s stance is odd.

But predictable...

Nothing odd about it. It's the best format for starters.

Conferences don't care about getting left out as much as people think. The playoffs payout to all conferences equally, about $50 million a year, no matter if you send 0 teams to the playoffs, or 2. Last year the Big10 got the same check the SEC got from the playoffs.

The SEC probably got a little bit extra because there is a little bit of a bowl payout, but it's very little when you take into account only the difference between those bowl payouts and other bowl payouts.

I hate it. We will just have another controversy about going to 12 or 16 teams in a few years. The NCAA BB, started at 4 and now we have I think 68.

In the years where the Orange, Sugar and Rose are not part
of the semi-finals...a Big10 Champ, left out of the playoffs
would earn more money, than say the SEC.

Both Leagues get their 50 mil playoff payout
The SEC rep in the Sugar would earn 40 mil for the league
The Big10 Champ in the Rose would earn 40 mil for the league

But because the Big10 Champ was left out of the playoffs, it is
a very good chance that a second Big10 team could get the
Orange Bowl spot, That would pay the Big10 27 more mil.
