I’m not a fan of going to 8 teams and I’m absolutely against autobids to the playoffs for conference champs.
Agreed, and how many games are we going to ask these young men to play? Already a couple imo...

I need some coffee, dairy, and spicy Indian food to do that. Big props to you.

Id like to thank the bartender that served me two Sam Adams for lunch and the mediocre cheeseburger that came with them.

And Scott Frost of course

Apparently it is 10 conferences and six wild cards, but I just figured it based on the rankings at the end of the season and it would look like this...

1. Alabama vs. 16. Appalachian St.
2. Clemson vs. 15. University of Alabama-Birmingham
3. Notre Dame vs. 14. Northern Illinois
4. Oklahoma vs. 13. Fresno St.
5. Georgia vs. 12. Penn St.
6. Ohio St. vs 11. LSU
7. Michigan vs. 10. Florida
8. UCF vs. 9. Washington

Looks good to me.
So, I want a P5 and a G5 playoff, separate from one another, and people say my idea is fucked up?

As was stated earlier, the G5 would miss out on the NY6 money, the $81 million from the playoffs money, and the money for the other top 3-7 teams bowl games to have said playoffs. I don’t think they will make that much money back from having a playoff.

Need to go to 8. Take 2 weeks off and get the ball rolling.

Agreed. I remember back before the BCS there were years that #1 didn't even play #2. Each team would finish unbeaten and you'd hear, "We're the Champs." "No, we're the Champs." God, how pathetic. The main thing I hated about the BCS was that it wasn't utilized to form a playoff, just 1 vs 2.

Only....and only MONEY will drive this. It may not be ESPN or any network(s) per se. Who knows what kind of media will be delivering in the future. Unless there is more money to be made, I can't see it happening. Money has been the driving force behind most...if not all...changes the past several years.

I meant before 2026...ESPN has a contract, unless they are presented with a plan that makes them more money, they aren't signing a new one.

Fine with 8 as long as no auto bids and an auto G5 team making it.
For clarity, you're saying you are ok with it as long as no auto bids and a G5 teams make it in? Or you do not want a G5 team in?

I wouldn't say it was fucked up...just dumb. Because there's no money in it. The best G5 tv deal (MAC) pays their conference members slighly less than 1.2% of the B1G members in the same geographic footprint. If there is no tv money why would a G5 member want to be in separate playoffs...they could just drop back down to FCS if all they wanted is a chance to win a playoff. But, that's not all they want, they want some of that sweet sweet P5 cash.

Look at it this way. Since 2012, UCF has had 44 games televised The two top rated games that UCF has ever played in are the two NY6 bowl games 19.7 viewers...which quite frankly would have drawn numbers with or without UCF. The total viewers for their next 7 games which includes a bowl game and the two AAC championships against Memphis drew 20 million viewers. The next 35 games drew 23 million. Total of 62.7 million for 44 games.

By contrast, the last 5 games of 2017, which includes the Mercer game, Alabama drew 71.6 million.

If you can't get people to watch nobody is going to pay you.

I think there should be "auto bids" but would be ok with putting restrictions on it (say, no teams ranked higher than "x")
If was X to the power of Y that might work.

Yes no auto bids or auto bid for whoever the G5 is. If the G5 is in the top 8 that's fine. If it's a team outside the top 8 keep them out.

Most of these “expanding playoffs” ideas include eliminating CCG which is worse than having the BCS again.

Way to much money in CCG. They will have to find a way to replace or no P5 will consider
