if i was feaster and could pull myself away from the buffet i would have claimed Volpatti

I think the Flames might have, but they're pretty close to the 50 contract maximum (last I looked they were at 48). At least this was a contract for a contract and it looks like McGratton at least for now will be playing in Abby.

cap geek shows them at 49 pro contracts prior to piskula for mcGratton ... meaning they couldnt claim McGratton yesterday AND Volpatti today

All right, enough of the weight jokes (lol).

/It looks like Mike Gillis could also push himself away from the table from time-to-time...

they probably were gonna claim mcgratton yesterday but then saw Volpatti on waivers and thought they could swing it to get both players

So Calgary didn't even get a chance to claim Volpatti?!? Take back all your slanderous Feaster statements.

:D

hey now ... at first i thought Feaster was a fat dunce for getting McGratton... but then you mentioned Calgary might still claim Volpatti and then everything made sense .. (ie trading Piskula to free up a contract)

now that they didnt claim him Feasters a fat dunce again

/and yes Gillis is a fat dunce for letting Volpatti go for not even a late round draft pick

Volpatti claim by Caps is George McPhee's way of saying thanks to Gillis and Gilman for visiting his press box a couple weeks ago. #Canucks

just hate when a team gets rid of a guy who bleeds for the jersey

Jim Jamieson ‏@JamiesonCanucks
Just spoke with Volpatti's agent, Peter Cooney, said Van was player's dream team but biz is biz and Volpatti happy to be staying in NHL.

Flyers place Leighton and Sestito, Dal place Wandell on Waivers."

Alan O'Sullivan ‏@RollingPucks
#Canucks should claim Leighton to eventually backup Schneider and blow the trade fervour of this city sky high.

i have to think since there was smoke ... there was fire ... only way an eastern team would have had a good read on what a guy like Volpatti could provide would be because they were scouting the canucks in anticipation of a trade a couple weeks ago ... they were probably watching other canucks and Volpatti jumped onto their radar (not to be included in THE trade per se)

I don't get this move by the Canucks.

Didn't Kesler just go back on IR?

I would have thought there was still a roster spot. Tough, depth players who can even kind of play usually garner some return at the deadline. Or may even come in handy during the playoffs.

Pinnizotto is supposedly healthy now.
he's bigger, (apparently) tougher, and can kill penalties.
then needed room to activate him (and then send him to Chicago on a conditioning stint).

not sure how the Kesler thing fits in though.
