Cole was even better than that in Carolina with Whitney. Who he is back with.

In regards to talent on that trade, I'd put Ryder ahead of Cole, it's the draft pick that puzzles me. I suppose it makes up for the extra year that Cole has on his contract.

- why did Dallas trade a good player for a worse player on a bad contract
- The Canadiens traded Erik Cole? Great trade. Who did they get?


Dallas sent their leading goal scorer and leading point getter for someone who ranks waaaay down the page.

It seems a bit weird from both sides.

Cole was amazing last year. Ryder is leading his team in points.

I've just never been a huge fan of Ryder and he was a LEGENDARY drinker when he was in MTL his first go around.

On the flip side I always find myself hating Cole when he plays the Sens. He's a better skater than Ryder and he's a bit nastier. Ryder's release is good.

When motivated Ryder is a talented player. Meh.

I personally wouldn't have done this from a Habs POV and I don't really understand why Dallas did it.

Weird trade that probably ends up fairly even.

I think the Habs did it because of Cole's 2 rich years left on his deal (Ryder is a UFA).
They can walk away from Ryder, and have a spot for Gallagher or Galchenyuk in the top 6 next season
