The Calgary Flames announced today they have reduced their roster to 26 players by reassigning Paul Bryon (C) and Brett Carson (D) to the Abbotsford Heat (AHL) while Henrik Karlsson (G) has been designated for assignment but remains with the team.

I think Henrik is waiting to be re-assigned back to Europe, no room down in Abbotsford.

Going into the season they only had 5 NHL defenseman signed & one of them wanted to stay in Slovakia. They expected Calvin De Haan to make the team this season. He's out for the year after a 2nd shoulder surgery. They need help on D.

I'm not sure who the 4th line Center is going to be. Reasoner was bad last year. I'm not sure if Cizikas is ready. Aucoin could have a shot. Bailey is out for at least another week or 2 as well. The rushing of prospects looks to be over. Niederreiter wasn't even invited to training camp & he's got 19 goals in 37 games in Bridgeport. Strome was sent back to Niagara yesterday. They want to make sure the kids are ready.

The Redden signing really isn't bad. Wade obviously doesn't need the cash at this point, and he's still a decent D-man at a reasonable price. He was just competely untouchable with that absurd contract.

Well, he is at a reasonable price. But the last season before they sat him, he was physically over, couldn't skate hard, never hit (like he did a lot before), spent a lot of time waterskiing behind guys. And his attitude - in Hitch's house? That's gonna be a soap opera. Anything to affect chemistry in a Central Division locker room is okay by me.

And I liked Redden.
