Sabres kept 8 D on the 23 man roster. Apparently concerned about NYI grabbing the good prospects if they had to be sent back down.

I think it's obvious the Islanders are looking at every defenseman on the waiver wire. They just don't have the depth at the NHL & AHL level. Visnovsky won't be with the big club for at least 2 weeks. Calvin De Haan is out for the year again. Matt Carkner is not a top 4 defenseman.

Low risk potentially nice reward signing by the Blues - Obviously, they excluded Brett Hull from the decision making process on this one.

The Blues get added depth on D. Wedden gets a chance to play for a contender. It's a win for both sides.
