The Rangers optioned reliever Keone Kela to Double-A Frisco and placed catcher Robinson Chirinos on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder on Saturday.

The moves clear roster space for new acquisitions Cole Hamels and Sam Dyson. Bobby Wilson will start at catcher Saturday.

This was my thought. I hoped LuJack would have gotten it done over Thompson, though. Done deal now, just gotta hope it works out for the Rangers and best of luck to JT.

Rangers acquire C Bobby Wilson

The Rangers have announced that they have acquired catcher Bobby Wilson on a waiver claim from Tampa Bay and placed veteran pitcher Ross Ohlendorf on waivers.

Wilson has just eight hits in 55 at-bats this season. Ohlendorf has pitched in eight games this season and compiled a 3.52 ERA.

Doesn't look like we should expect much offense from Bobby

Getting Chirinos some time off and probably seeing who we like better as a backup out of Gimenez & Wilson, who the pitchers respond to better

Going to manage his innings, if he's on the ML squad it's too tempting to use him

Yeah. You mentioned Nicholas the other day, and I like what he did with the bat last year. Got off to a slow start this year though. Brett doesn't seem to be a great defensive catcher either, but I like him. Don't really know much about Wilson and we saw Chris last year, will be interesting to see how it plays out this year.

I hope there is a different plan for next year, as I hope for an upgrade to what Chirinos and Corpy gave us at C.

I don't know anything about his defense, as there is more to it than just throwing out runners, pitch framing, calling a game, but the bat is there for a catcher at least

But I'm assuming he's been at AAA the last 2 years for a reason
