Of course as we have seen in the past plenty of moves are still made after the deadline. Since we are down at the bottom I guess we have first crack or close to it at players made available.
Rays fans have to be really pissed right now. All this hype over trading Price the last 2 years and the return is Smyly and Nick Franklin....

You've gotta tip your hat to billy beane man. I know he comes across as conceited at times, especially in having brad freakin pitt play him in a movie, but the man has out-gm'ed Jon Daniels the past 3 years. He does a damn good job. He has an interesting quote that goes something like "you only get a couple of times in life that you can go for it. when you think that moment is right, you go for it. you don't look back. the thing that separates the good from the bad is picking WHEN to go for it."
Well, needless to say, this season he's goign for it.
He's leveraged his team's future for this season. If that is "gming" then so be it. If they don't win then he and JD are in the same spot. Why I really dislike Beane is all the hype for a team that hasn't won a damn thing during his tenure.

that's called going for it. There is not one person that can deny that he has done a better job than JD the past 3 years. He's turned a bunch of no name dudes into a constant contender and one of the best rotations in baseball.
@calvinwatkins: There is a expectation the Rangers will run OF Alex Rios through waivers.

Rangers haven't won anything either
Still want that no. 1 pick but would like to see him now up his average and hit homers. Sure he was effected by all of this.I disagree that he's done a better job. Beane just signs the guys. He and JD have little to no affect after that. You are giving the GM way too much credit for what Bob Melvin and his staff have done.
I am so glad you are back with your strawman posts...I never said they did. Please point to my post where I said the Rangers won a WS?
What I will give Beane credit for is building up a strong corral of young arms that really started their run, and for acquiring a bullpen. I give Melvin and his coaches great credit for making effective major leaguers out of them - and for getting the most out of has-beens like Barfolo Colon and Kazmir... and for making an effective starter out of Chavez. This team would be a joke without this pitching staff...I disagree that he's done a better job. Beane just signs the guys. He and JD have little to no affect after that. I agree. He has been better than Jon Daniels IMO

I'll wait to say that. I see the A's where Texas was a few years ago. We built, and then made the move for Lee to go for it all. Didn't work out. Will it for the A's?
