The Rangers are coming off another walkoff win at home. Five of their last six home wins have come via the walkoff variety.

In the series the Rangers will send out Leiter, Heaney and Eovaldi.

I didn't think it was time to bring Leiter up last week, and I really don't like him facing the Yankees at this point.

This should be a very difficult series for the Rangers.

I asked this in the previous thread and got a couple of answers. I will ask again here.

Here are 3 batting averages by a left handed Ranger batter against left handed pitching. Can anyone guess who the owner of each set of numbers are?

So Leiter is going to start?

like Leiter but sending him out against Cole and the Yankees is just wrong. Judge, Soto, etc will destroy him

I just know one of those isn't Carter.

Yes, he is.
Thanks. Last time I looked which was very early this morning I saw it as "undecided." Might as well. With our BP a BP game would not be good.

Marcus Semien has 4 years 100 million left on his contract. If he doesn't turn things around next season the Rangers are in big trouble.

At the very least he shouldn't be leading off any more. I know he is an above average 2nd baseman but he is vastly overpaid and his contract is going to really hurt the Rangers chances to contend the next few years barring a complete turnaround offensively...at 34 years old!

From Texas Rangers PR:

Congratulations to RHP Kumar Rocker of Texas’ Triple-A Round Rock affiliate after being named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for August 26-September 1.

Rocker, 24, fired 5.0 scoreless innings with one hit, no walks, and career-high 10 strikeouts (67 pitches/44 strikes) on Thursday vs. Oklahoma City, the first Triple-A outing of his professional career.

The right-hander has posted a 1.71 ERA (6 ER/31.2 IP) with 47 strikeouts and 4 walks in 9 games/8 starts for Round Rock (AAA), Frisco (AA), and ACL Rangers (Rk.) this season. His 11.75 SO/BB figure is T4th-highest in all of MiLB (min. 30.0 IP).

A Watkinsville, Ga. native, Rocker is currently tabbed as TEX’s 2nd-best prospect (98th overall), according to MLB Pipeline. He is in his third professional season in the Rangers organization after being selected with the 3rd overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt.

Yeah, it still shows that, but they tweeted out after the game yesterday that it was Leiter. I thought it was a little strange that the GameDay still didn't show it.

Yeah, I knew that was coming when we signed him. I just hope he has one more good season left in him.

Okay, here is the answer.

.118 -- 2022 Josh Smith

.120 -- 2023 Josh Smith

.304 -- 2024 Josh Smith

The lesson is that it will most likely take young lefthanded hitters a little while to adjust to hitting lefties, but the good hitters will adjust. Palmeiro was the same way.

Evan Carter is too good of a hitter to not get better at hitting lefties. He needs a lot more exposure to them in order to do so. He may struggle over his next 50 to 100 plate appearances against them though.

The flipside of having young, affordable players means having to let them take their lumps and sticking with them through it.
Hopefully with Carter in particular they let him have extra leeway next year against lefties rather than treat him like a premium platoon player.

I'll be the super optimist here and say Leiter will go 5 innings, give up 2 runs off of 6 hits and 2 walks while getting 6 strikeouts.

Just got a feeling this will be a statement game for him.

From Scott Lucas:

Abi Ortiz has a .302/.402/.523 line dating back to Independence Day and nine homers in his last 30 games. Wonderful to see.

I think it will be an ugly game for Leiter. He needed some more confidence before being brought up.

From Scott Lucas:

21-year-old David Davalillo has fanned ten in two of four high-A starts. He's struck out 31 and walked only five in that span.

Avery Weems made his first appearance since 2022. Part of the Lance Lynn trade, Weems underwet Tommy John surgery early in 2023.

I had Josh Smith for the 304. I enjoyed the lesson
