I think it will be an ugly game for Leiter. He needed some more confidence before being brought up.

Yep. I think he really struggles tonight. I think Judge hits one out against him. But these are growing pains and you just have to give him a few more starts this season and look for progression.

Bruce Bochy, though, seemed to imply today that while the latter is an option, it’s an unlikely one.

Seager shouldn't even bother going to the on deck circle anymore. By the time he gets there Semien at bat is already over.

I would have liked to have him leave after 5 feeling positive about his start. That is what is most important in this game to me.

This just ticks me off. Bochy you really messed this up. Leiter pitched more than 5 innings 3 times at AAA. That was 7, 5.2 and 5.1. 5 innings should have been it.

It's funny that we knew what would happen, but Bochy either didn't, or didn't think it would matter.

Agreed. Should have pulled him after 5 and let this serve as a confidence boost game for him.
That said, I'm further encouraged by Leiter's performance tonight against what is probably the best offense in baseball.
He showed great fight, and while the final stat line doesn't look encouraging, he is absolutely showing improvement.

It's funny, after I mentioned on Twitter that I thought he should have taken him out after the 5th, someone told me it was easy to say that after the 6th went south. He said it wasn't an obvious decision.

Exactly on trying to make this a confidence boost. At this point in time of our lost season an individual victory for Leiter should have been what was most important.
