Martin signed with Toronto 5/82...

I liked Martin but not at that price, glad we passed. I want Grandal from SanDiego.

Wow. Stupid signing. Toronto sucks.

I don't know if he's available , but I'd like to see the Dodgers check in on Jason Castro. He'd be a definite upgrade over Ellis and company.

38 year old Joel Peralta for (essentially) Jose Dominguez? Huh?

Freidman must be big on the Liberatore kid...

I thought we had a new GM. This deal for a soon to be a 39 year old reliever has all the makings of Ned Colletti. What the hell do we need with another old man in the bull pen. We gave up too much.

It's not that I dislike Peralta, because he has been pretty durable and good for the last 5 years. It's more so that I don't like giving up a young high upside arm in the process. I always like Dominguez, especially in this ERA of power bullpen arms. I wish we didn't give up Dominguez. Hopefully Peralta keeps pitching well next year and we won't worry about it.

Free agency pool is shallow, lose a potentially good arm down the road for a decent to good arm right away. We still have our best prospects, we can spare a Dominguez.

This is certainly one way to look at it. However, I think this is the type of thinking that has sunk the Dodgers over the last two decades. Short term, nearsighted approach. If anything, the bullpen woes of late tells us how valuable a farm system with loaded, young arms can be, we literally had no one to turn to at the end of the year.

I think they were wary of Dominguez's durability and felt he could go now. Plus, Peralta gives them short term financial flexibility after 2015.

Hanley is signing with the RedSox...

sad day

.817 OPs last year across 449 at bats? Not that sad of a day.... If this was the 2013 Han Ram that we had lost, okay, but with all of the nit picky injuries, sour attitude, atrocious defense and a decent .817 OPS last year - the money can be spent in far more productive ways in the coming years.

Also, Kemp might be on the block. Management would prefer to move Ethier or Crawford (of course), but with Kemp being 30 and having over 100 million remaining, they are accepting reality that he has the most interest on the market. They also want to pave the way for Joc. So, I guess this moves Puig back to right, Craw in left. No idea where Ethier lands. Pricey bench player that can't hit lefties so situationally he's useless.

Dodgers might be erasing the canvas, clearing out bad money and recalibrating the entire system allowing Freidman to have an uninhibited palate. Looks like we might be on a 3-5 year plan before we sniff the playoffs again (assuming rumors are true). Tough pill to swallow seeing as though Kershaw/Grienke are at their peak - but nothing you can really do when Kershaw shits the bed in the playoffs. Team playoffs windows open as quickly as they close. So we will see....

But overall approach - no need to overpay potential free agents because the market is thin. ride it out, make prudent moves now and gear up for when the right players are available.

4/88 is the deal Hanley received with a potential 5th year vesting option

that is an awesome deal, can't believe we passed on him.

Guess he didn't care about being a Dodger for life as much as he claimed.

Awesome deal? No... But not too shabby. Surprised he didn't get over 100mil. He's destined to be a DH.

The deal that I proposed was actually less than what he got. Pablo Sandoval and David Ortiz seemed destined to be DH's.

I'd say it's very good at this point, only 4 years guaranteed with higher AAV, every team should use that strategy. I'm interested to see with is needed for that 5th year vesting option to vest, that might be the swinger on how good the contract really is.

What's the scoop on him?

throws pretty hard, 93-96, good slider... could be effective in the bullpen.

I don't see why an early version of Pederson would move Puig out of CF when a revitalized Kemp couldn't. Puig was very good defensively last year.

Rumors here on the east coast are saying the Dodgers have offered Lester $150MM for 6 years.

Before that rumor hit, Lester said he'd make his decision by the weekend. If the rumor is accurate, how many Teams did the Dodgers just kill?? SF? Boston? Chicago? NY Yanks?

I think it's a total bluff.... but a brilliant bluff to drive up the price on our "competitors."
