For sure a lot can change but his guy did, in fact, say Tua would bust and it looks like that wont be the case.

Seems the TEAM who screwed up the most is SF with everything they gave up for Lance.......and, sure, Lance, might still be fine but could have stayed put and just taken Fields.

Lance is a bust. That was such a risky pick and really dumb the capital they gave up

The fewest Carr has had in a season is 3,270 and that was his rookie season.

LOL at these haters trying to dog Carr.

Despite how bad they are....Fields has looked like he will be a good one.

They gotta fix that OL, add some players to the defense and get a #1 receiver. They have a shit ton of cap space for FA.

And me and @tlance point still stands which is to make a list like that you need to start your rookie year and dont get injured.

He hasn’t even played yet.

Can’t call a guy a bust when he gets hurt second game of second season.

Avg 557 attempts in your first 8 seasons. You should easily hit 3k passing so health and starting in your rookie year are the real 2 requirements. Most qbs going to hit that number unless they are a running qb

He does look like he may have nailed it on Fields. Not so good on Lance (but cannot predict injury), Wilson or Jones.....but still early..

Lance really needs to stay healthy next year. He's going to fade out of the picture if this keeps up.

If you're going to compare Carr to Wilson and Peyton, finish the stats:

First 9 seasons:
Manning: 275 TDs, lowest yardage was 3739 (rookie) and was over 4000 all but 2 of the 9 seasons
Wilson: 267 TDs, lowest yardage was 3118 (rookie), over 4000 4 times
Carr: 213 TDs, lowest yardage was 3270 (rookie, assuming he passes that this year), over 4000 4 times

Not remotely close to Manning or Wilson for that matter (4500 rushing yards to add to his numbers). This stat is more of an oddity than an indication of greatness.

It will be fun to see what these teams think about these deals in 5 years. 11, 9, and 11 years for those 3 guys. Are the Padres going to ante up with a an even bigger deal to keep Soto in the coming years?
They are likely to be bad contracts but the value now is that you get a cheaper AAV when you extend the contract that long. That helps bigger spenders create cost certainty and a system. The idea would be that when these players are older you have cheaper young home grown talent around them to complete the roster.

However, individually, I agree with you. These long deals almost assure that they will be a bad contract on the back end. Look at the Harper deal. He signed for 13 years a few years back. He has a violent swing and that won’t age well as he gets older. But in the now? The Phillies got an MVP year out of him in with AAV being outside the top 25 highest in the league at that time.

I'm being fecitious of course but he looked really bad early. So did Fields but the competition Fields faced in college as to Lance is night and day. That was my issue on Lance.

Considering they gave up 3 1st's for a guy that was projected to be a project is really the head scratcher here. Whether he develops or not...who really knows, it isn't looking good but he needs to stay healthy and get a couple years consistently playing in this system and learning before he can really have a chance

Not saying Lance will work out but I have no problem giving up draft capital for a developmental player in the right scenario. It’s a big payoff position if you’re right. They have a talented roster and were seeking one last piece. The developmental player is less likely to earn a big second deal in time for that to happen. It comes down to what they do with it and the quality of the evaluation in projecting where his talents can take him with solid development and coaching.

To be fair, Herbert has had far more talent around him than Carr has.

Seems like every season the Chargers are said to be a playoff/SB contender.

Can't really say that about the Raiders.

I don't think there's a more disappointing team in the NFL than the Chargers.

Aren't elite level QB's supposed to make those around them better? Carr's put up some decent numbers during his nine year career. But not much to show for it. Only two winning seasons and one playoff trip. And a 62-77 record.

The Chargers are disappointing this season. What were the Rams picked to do preseason? I think injuries have kinda kicked their ass this season.
