So if they both decide to bolt then that means Eason is gonna hang for at least two years.
I figured it would be 1 and done.

I don't think it has anything to do with Eason.

This is purely my own personal speculation; but if Eason has even a statistically average season (what I anticipate), I think he would get a first round draft grade because scouts love big QBs with huge arms. Given the fact that he didn't commit to UW in the first place and bolted from Georgia, I don't think he's a guy who really cares about sticking around as long as possible to help the program.

I'm still quite surprised that both are transferring already. In their cases I think that they knew they would be behind Eason and Haener on the depth chart and would face more competition from Dylan Morris, Ethan Garbers and Sam Huard in the future. My thought was that someone would transfer, but I didn't think it would be until next year when a clear starter starts to emerge once Eason is gone - assuming he goes to the draft.

I think that for them it is that they're looking for their own future and with this transfer portal bullshit, they can just jump ship and not have to take a year off.

Sirmon is the more surprising of the two for me considering that he's a local kid and his father is a professor at UW in the business department.

So you think Morris will beat out Haener if Eason leaves after this season?

I can't answer for Wiz, but that will be a really interesting competition.

When you look at the two, they both have similar builds and skill sets. Coming out of high school Morris was the higher rated prospect, but Haener has more experience with the offense which is something that Petersen clearly values.

With the assumption that Eason leaves, I'd have to assume Haener would be the starter. Haener will be a redshirt junior and Morris a redshirt freshman in 2020.

Hate to say it but with the transfer portal shit, whoever doesn't win the job will probably be the next UW transfer.

It hasn't been mentioned, but senior defensive lineman Jason Scrempos has also entered the transfer portal.

Welcome to college free agency.

So the portal is where they can go to any Division one with out losing a year? Correct?

When a player enters the portal, it allows them to have contact with other schools and coaches.

The transferring to a D1 school without losing a year is a bit more complicated. There was a change in the rules and now just about any player entering the portal is allowed to skip sitting out a year. So the answer to that question is essentially yes.

So one of them is going to end up in Eugene??????

Um so I read a little more about the portal, they could still pull themselves out of it if they don't like the schools or the offers

Would be pretty tough returning to a team after it's public you're trying to leave. Can't imagine how teammates would feel knowing that you were trying to jump ship because you're not going to get playing time as a redshirt freshman and felt it was 50/50 winning a job as a sophomore so you decided to take your chances elsewhere.

I think the graduate transfers can play immediately. Not sure about the others.

Off the top of my head, now it's up to a committee that is very lenient. The change happened after Eason transferred to UW, otherwise he would've likely been eligible last year. Justin Fields transferred from Georgia to Ohio State and was granted immediate eligibility, as was Jalen Hurts.

Good Point of View!

But lets remember that option is still available to them if they don't like other offers....
And I got a tweet both were with their teammates at the movies when the news broke so it doesn't sound like their burning bridges with any teammates.....Its a business now, and these kids understand that!

Thanks, and hopefully we don't lose both of them.

I do anticipate that they will receive many offers from schools that put them in a position where they will have a better chance at seeing playing time earlier.

Speculatively speaking, I have to assume that part of it stems from the fact that it looked like Dylan Morris was getting more in reps at in spring practices than Sirmon or Yankoff. It appeared as if the coaching staff grouped those three together. With Eason and Haener getting all the reps with the #1 and #2 offense, it seemed that the writing was on the wall that it would be a competition between Sirmon, Yankoff, Morris and Heaner in 2020.

I would concur!

At the end of the day Sirmon and Yankoff need to look in the mirror and say " did I really give it my all" during the spring and drills.

I would give the benefit of the doubt that they did their best. Both of them were considered top-10 QBs in their respective classes, and just want to be on the field. Playing time will be hard to come by with so much talent. I'm sure they all want to be on the field making plays and likely have NFL aspirations.

If you look at it from their perspective, you have to be asking yourself; "Do I gamble that I will win the QB competition at a team loaded at that position, or do I take my shot at another program with less talent?"

I'm sad to see them go, but I understand the rational behind it. On the bright side, there is the possibility that one of them accepts a transfer offer and the other stays. Not sure how likely that is considering Eason and Haener are the clear #1 and #2.
