Here is an article on XFL players to be aware of as NFL teams can start negotiating with then at 9 PM tomorrow.
Ranking the top XFL players who could sign NFL contracts
DC asked some questions about what would make the draft successful, and I think it is important to look at the roster as is sits today. I will give my opinion based on position.
Offense:
QB:
Starter: Drew Lock
Backups: Jeff Driskel, Brett Rypien
I like Lock as the starter. We will find out a lot about him this year. The depth at QB is not great, but that is pretty much the story of the NFL.
RB:
Starter: Melvin Gordon
Backups: Philip Lindsay, Royce Freeman
I don't like spending the money on Gordon, but he does fill a role that this team didn't have prior. I see no need to add to this group.
T:
Starters: Garrett Bolles, Ju'Wuan James
Backups: Elijah Wilkinson, Jake Rodgers
I think both Bolles and James are in a sink or swim years in Denver, and our depth could be better. We have been concerned about the depth for years.
G:
Starters: Dalton Risner, Graham Glasgow
Backups: Elijah Wilkinson, Austin Schlottman, Patrick Morris
I believe Wilkinson and Schlottmann are reasonable depth.
Center:
Starter: N/A
Backup: Patrick Morris, Austin Schlottmann
Maybe it is that I don't know enough about Morris.I would like to see someone added to this group for additional competition. I am good with drafting a center.
TE:
Starter: Noah Fant
Backups: Andrew Beck, Nick Vannett, Jeff Heuerman, Troy Fumagalli, Austin Fort, Bug Howard
We have really good depth at TE, but I expect that Heuerman is going to be released. I don't see any need for adding to this group. May even be able to trade one or 2 of them in Training Camp.
WR:
Starter: Cortland Sutton, N/A
Backups: DaeSean Hamilton, Tim Patrick, Juwann Winfree, Fred Brown, Trinity Benson Kelvin McKnight
No proven WR outside of Sutton, but several guys who could step up to be the starter. I think additional talent and speed needed and expected either through the draft or FA.
Defense:
DE:
Starters: Dre'Mont Jones, N/A
Backups: DeMarcus Walker, Jonathan Harris, Deyon Sizer
Walker could possibly be the other starter, but I would be more comfortable bring in Vet to atleast be a spot starter while we find out more about some of these reserve players.
DT:
Starter: Jurrell Casey
Backups: Mike Purcell, Kyle Peko
I think we are more then good with Casey and Purcell. Peko is not a horrible 3rd option, but unlikely to make the team.
OLB:
Starters: Von Miller, Bradley Chubb
Backups: Malik Reed, Justin Hollins
Starters could be the best duo in the league, and the depth in not bad. Adding another OLB late in the draft or UFA would be not be a horrible idea.
ILB:
Starters: Alexander Johnson, Todd Davis
Backups: Justin Hollins, Josey Jewell, Josh Watson
I am fine with Johnson, and Davis is good on run downs, but we need a guy that can come in and cover TEs and RBs. I think we could upgrade over Davis, but we could do worse too.
CB:
Starters: A.J. Bouye, N/A, N/A
Backups: Bryce Callahan, De'Vonate Bausby, Isaac Yiadom, Duke Dawson, Alijah Holder
If Callahan and Bausby are healthy the would be acceptable to slide into the starting lineup, but health is a question. Probably can count on 1 of the 2.
S:
Starters: Justin Simmons, Kareem Jackson
Backups: Trey Marshall, Duke Dawson
The starters are set, but may need some more talent added to the Safety group even if is it is just for competition.
Special Teams:
K:
Starter: Brandon McManus
I am ok with McManus. It seems no kicker is automatic any more.
P:
Starter: N/A
Contenders: Colby Wadman, Trevor Daniel
Wadman is too inconsistent. Not sure he is the future at the position. I know nothing about Daniel, but my guess is we would hope for better. I expect we wall add someone else either in the draft or as a UDFA.
LS:
Starter: ???
Contenders: Jacob Bobenmoyer, Wes Farnsworth
So hard for fans to judge who is the best when they do not play. I will trust the coaching staff.
Thoughts???
I am hoping someone can convince me that we don't have as many holes as I believe we still have.
I don't think I would want to bring him in. It could be dangerous with us having a very young QB. Brown doesn't seem like the type of player who would be patient enough to help him grow. I could see him getting frustrated sooner than later if Lock doesn't come out of the gate hot. And this isn't factoring in any of his off the field issues. I would get nervous anytime I saw "breaking news" about the NFL if he played for us.Ok, don’t give me any flak, I’m just throwing this out to raise discussion. And there’s nothing wrong with discussion. IF Antonio brown is cleared, would there be interest in signing him to a one year, team friendly deal with behavior clauses in to protect the team? He’s an absolute dynamo receiver, arguably the best when he’s on his game. He would provide the talent to bring this offense to the next level. That being said, he’s also toxic. And his demeanor could possibly derail the growth of some of our young guys like Lock and Sutton. Do we have the coaching and locker room to keep this diva in check? Is there a moral obligation to not venture down a path even though he can possibly add wins? Or do we throw caution in the wind and just try to win at all costs? I’ll weigh in on my opinion after a few replies
James actually played well when he did play last year. Hopefully him and Bryce play 16 this year . Add back Chubb huge offseason and the draft will add at least 2 starters for 2020
I am a little surprised that Free Agency has dried up already. There are some really good players still available.
Hi8 guys, Patriots have certainly taken some hits.
Harmon, Collins and Shelton to the Lions, Karras and Van Noy to the Dolphins and of course Brady to the Bucs.
If you think Belichick would tank a season for a shot at any college player, you truly know nothing whatsoever about football.
There's a boatload of solid players available and the Pats will not trade for a QB. Supply is much greater than demand. Newton, Winston, Trubinsky and Dalton will be crawling and begging for jobs, probably below minimum wage.
If Elway follows the Belichick principle, he'll wait until Friday before jumping into the market. With all off the activity in the past two day, patience may be the greatest virtue after all.
I don’t think we resign both Shelby Harris and Derek Wolfe. I think Wolfe is the more important player to our team.
