Wrong, it can be appealed.

If the school wishes to avoid the NCAA penalties imposed on that coach, the college must send representatives to appear before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, and "show cause" (i.e., evidence) as to why it should not be penalized for hiring that coach.

Nebraska can possibly do it because of the perception that Nebraska is a relatively clean program.

Bruce Pearl was under show cause and was hired by AUBURN.

Just because Pearl was cleared by the NCAA doesn't mean Tressel would though. You have a good point though.

The fact that thy kept him after they were 8-4 and underdogs in the bowl last year, but fired him after going 9-3 should make it clear that Nebraska has a guy in mind. Nothing has changed on the Pelini side (and if they have, they have changed for the better...no terrible audio released this year or anything).

The change has to occur on the other end (ie they have a worthy replacement). You aren't going to fire a consistently solid coach if you don't think you have a home run. Out of all the names floated for Nebraska, only Scott Frost makes sense. He's the only guy who has really done something to thoroughly increase his national profile this year. My hunch is he is the guy.

Pelini was fighting the ghost of Osborne. Pelini 6 seasons had 57 wins while Osborne first 6 seasons had only 55 wins.

Dude ... you obviously do not understand Nebraska football and what their fans expect & demand. Please, stop.

the days of that are over for schools like Nebraska, Notre Dame, Michigan, etc. teams will rise and fall from season to season due to the talent pool being spread out and the Midwest not producing the talent it use to. speed has become the name of the game.

Fewer scholarships now. The competitive balance has shifted, but if you disagree with them.....you're trolling.

Is Bo the best coach ever? Hell no, but he turned around the program and that can't be denied. Just surprised at all these people rolling over Bo after all he did for the program.

Tom Osborne never lost more than three games in a year. Bo Pelini never lost less than four.

Do I think the Nebraska fans overrate how desirable their program is? Absolutely.
Do I think Osborne's success will ever be duplicated? No.
Do I blame Nebraska fans for wanting to make a change before the memory of their past greatness is completely lost to recruits and their parents? No.

I think Nebraska was right to fire Pelini. He isn't a terrible coach, but Nebraska's fanbase will always ensure that program doesn't become "terrible" in the long term. They want to go back to being a powerhouse, and it's clear they weren't heading there under Pelini. Maybe they won't under Frost or whoever they hire, but some chance at being elite is better than no chance.

Wrong.

Per the AD. They are in a coaching search.

Frost has only been a coordinator for 2 years. He is a MAJOR gamble. Far more of a gamble than Muschamp was.

NO TO SCOTT FROST.

Mark Stoops would be a perfect fit at Nebraska.

BILL SNYDER mf'er.

Explain the success @ Kansas St.

They don't have near the budget and facilities that Nebraska, Michigan, or Florida has.

What they do have is a head coach that can put the pieces together. They have a head coach that can get the players lined up properly. They have a head coach that can teach fundamentals and discipline on the football field.

Now shut your f'n pie-hole.

Nebraska's relevance of the 80s and 90s is over. The job won't be that desired by top coaches...
Not trolling just stating the fact that it isn't a top program and it is hard to get recruits to come to Lincoln, NE

McElwain if they want to pay the buyout would be a good option, they picked from Colorado State for their basketball coach and that worked well for them, may as well try football too

The buy out is very steep I hear. Hell, CSU just green lit a new stadium on the assumption that Coach Mac will be around a while.
