Dort doesn’t accomplish a whole lot for Milwaukee… He will be a FA himself in two years. More likely they demand Wallace/Topic. It they need a second salary filler that will more likely be Isaiah Joe. Their backcourt is paper thin and Dame isn’t getting younger.
You can forget about the Giannis thing, the Thunder simply do not need him. Fun to talk about I guess. FYI Dort is the best wing defender in the league.

Good player no doubt, just not a rebuild player. Not a piece the Bucks would immediately pursue.

But yeah fit would instantly come to question if they make the Giannis move… SGA would need to shoot more threes. They’re probably not jumping to make the move for him but in a brutal west it may be worth a swing. Not necessarily buying J-Dub will be as good. Better shooter that’s not saying much, but not anywhere near HOF trajectory that Giannis is.

Yeah that really matches up with your Pulitzer attempt with the theme of this thread. You can’t make this shit up.
Right, because I-Hart was paid $28 mil a year because he's "worth it" and not as a possible trade filler...

I was not joking with the title of the thread. If you were in the east you'd win it every year bar none... But playoff matchups can be a bitch, especially in the west (as my Nuggets also learned here in 2024).

Nobody is saying JDub will be as good as Giannis has been.

What I am saying is that as JDub continues to develop and as Giannis gets older, I do expect that it won’t be too long before JDub is as good as Giannis.

Maybe that is 2 years, maybe it is 5.

I don’t know.

But my point is that the gap between Giannis and JDub in current production is not great enough to overcome the advantages JDub brings in terms of $, fit and future upside.

good points in terms of basketball fit and I agree. I also think chemistry has to be considered. This team has a bunch of young guys but every guy seems wise beyond their years and together they have something you just don’t see often. Not sure I’ve ever seen it to the degree they have it.

They aren’t too far off KD, Russ and Harden in terms of talent.

They are already way further along in terms of fit.

Quality coaching plays a role in that also.

Fit was always the problem with that OKC team, if not, I think that team has a dynasty. All thrived with the ball in their hands and while over time Harden and Russ were great facilitators it just didn't work. Even then they got pretty damn far. Hard to ever match that kind of talent but Harden wasn't close to his peak then. In the end talent matters but fit is more important. Incorporate the two and you have solid depth...there is chance for something special.

I am constantly impressed with Daigneault. He doesn’t publicly call any of them out and he doesn’t knee jerk during games. He has let these guys learn by doing and it is working. He is always quick to point out the caliber of people they have in that locker room and it shows,

When will Giannis fade? That is kinda the point. Giannis is only 29 and he already has ridiculous post game. Like I said, yes maybe when is around 34. That gives OKC 4-5 years and they will be overwhelmimg favorites.

JDub COULD be a better player and enough for this team but I highly doubt he will be a top 3-5 player for the next 3-4 years like Giannis.
They have Shai, shooters and Chet who can spread the floor. Chet being a #3 instead of a #2. Giannis won’t have to play 40 mins a night with OKC’s depth, like he is doing now which ultimately increases his longevity.

He will never reach his full potential until he goes to a team where he can be a true #1. I think that would unluck JDub like Kawhi. Giannis doesn’t need to carry a team on his back like Lebron anymore. This would benefit both players in the future and OKC becomes overwhelming favs

All hypothetical bc it won’t happen
I think the NBA moves very fast- and contracts and issues always come up. Would anyone have guessed Durant/RW/Harden/Ibaka would have had only 1 Finals appearance to show for it?

If you can win a title you go for it- if you can get a top 3 player before he is 30 you go for it. You cant pay everyone and keep a team around forever in this salary cap climate unless you want to spend hundreds of millions in tax--- and maybe GSW can do that for a couple years as we saw- but OKC did not even want to pay Harden --- and they dont have the money to drop 150 million dollars a season in luxury tax if all these players have their max outcomes.

Clay Bennett does not NEARLY have the $ to go into the luxury tax on a year to year basis. Not even freaking close.

from 2021 to 2023- a 3 years span- the Warriors paid about 160M in luxury tax a year-- the Clippers paid about 120M in luxury tax a year. OKC does not have a shred of a possibility of being able to pay anything even in the stratosphere of that.

you never know what can happen with injuries and contracts and upsets---- when you strike out with Durant, RW, Harden, Ibaka--- if you are lucky enough to suck for a good long time and get a core again- you dont want to play the "some day" game again.

He doesn’t have to moron, but if he wanted to he absolutely could. The team is worth $4 billion

Lmao at this dumbass because his team is playing well this second. We all get to see how things turn out, hopefully anyway. That’s the beauty of all this.
