His problems IMO was way less at the start of the season .. at this point I belive it will get fixed in the off season
I think for Nix his footwork problems relate to converting tempo from under center vs in shotgun formation. Payton has him under center in a larger number of occassion - and back and forth from one to the other. Anyway - the kid does not give games away.Preseason he did a great job of keeping his feet underneath him and trusting his OL to hold up. He seems to have lost some of that trust (not sure why as the OL has been great this season) and is getting those happy feet leading to a lot of inaccurate passes. I would be willing to bet he will get a little better in this area as the season progresses and he feels more comfortable in this offense.
Which is why I expect as the season progresses he should improve. You are right he is doing things that he is not comfortable with at this time such as playing from under center and at times turning his back to the defense. That is a tough thing to learn for college QB's. So much panic when you have to turn your eyes back around and hope what you think the defense should be doing is what they have done.I think for Nix his footwork problems relate to converting tempo from under center vs in shotgun formation. I think because he doesn't quite trust his eyes yet of what he is seeing it is leading to him being late on a lot of plays or his feet not being right to make the throw when the window is opening. All of these things are correctable so I am not worried about him yet.
I don't think Bo is a playoff ready qb. Could he be at the end of the year? Maybe. But its going to take more than Nix to get there, and he's not an Elway that can get them there on his back for now.
And yet if we're honest we'd draft Mahomes first every time between them and twice on Sunday. Because regardless of stats, he wins. And wins chips. Id take a Superbowl win or deep playoff run over stat qbs like Drew Brees, Dan Marino, or others any day. Stats are relevant only if you've looked at their Superbowl count. If you compare Bo Nix to Mahomes stats for this season - Mahomes doesn't look too good.
My point this time - is a reference to the NFL's defensives have now caught up with NFL offenses. We are not seeing 3 and 4 TD passes a game as a rule anymore. Nix's stats are not out of line for other QB stats. And yet if we're honest we'd draft Mahomes first every time between them and twice on Sunday. Because regardless of stats, he wins. And wins chips. I thought Payton did a great job today answering the question about footwork. He said they shouldn't do much right now to try and fix it as that will lead to problems. Said right now they are working on trying to sync up his footwork with the play more so which has been a problem. He is late on some of his reads leading to bad footwork/accuracy.just like Josh Allen Nix’ major improvement will come during the offseason working on footwork etc.
the game will slow down as the season wears on but can’t work that much on technique during the season as the starter

Being at the Saints game with very good seats it was really eye opening on two aspects with Bo Nix. First he is making game winning plays mostly with his legs but a little bit with his arm. That is very encouraging and it is a lot like what Mahomes is doing this season in not playing great overall but making plays when necessary. Second, he is missing opportunities that even just merely good NFL QB's hits on and they are glaring live in front of you. That is kind of concerning as it seems to be happening consistently from game to game. Overall I am not panicked and really like his make up, but he has to start hitting these plays. In order to beat KC and compete with the Ravens he needs to improve as KC's defense will take away his legs and the Ravens offense will score some points even on our fantastic defense.
