He did. He didn't shove him to the ground but he did retaliate.

If he had retaliated the NFL would not have come out and said Staley should not have been penalized this morning...

Sheesh...

Your interpretation of retaliation is skewed...

All hell would break lose. The player would be kicked out of the league the patriots would be awarded extra draft picks, and they would be allowed to play with an extra lineman to keep Brady safe.

This is all I'm trying to say. Kaep bounced right back up and it was a silly flag to take.

So should you only help out a teammate when they get injured? The result of the cheap shot/late hit should have nothing to do with the way you react to protecting your QB. Do you guys not understand how locker rooms work?

No, but they shouldn't be drawing flags for no reason either. It's not like the hit was even that bad; it was just out of bounds. If he went at the knees or head fine, but with the hit that was, take the flag and move on.

Well, according to the league, it shouldn't have been drawing a flag for no reason. He shouldn't have had a flag drawn at all. And protecting your teammates is not "no reason."

Many people including myself have made this exact same point. I guess the one exception is if Brady is your QB and you know he's gonna be protected by the refs anyways.

So I'll bring this up here since it is after all the Bad Call vs Packers Cleared Up.

Anyone notice how similar the Interception was on the deep throw to the endzone that was called back thanks to Aldon being offside was to the Packers Interception on the Seahawks last year? The real NFL refs ruled we picked the ball off despite the Packer WR getting an arm on the ball and trying to make it look like a simultaneously catch after contact with ground. Granted it was all for nothing thanks to the penalty, but seeing that play live made me think of that horrible call last year.

The difference is that in this case the defender clearly had the ball first.

Last year the receiver had one hand on the ball first and it never moved wrt his hand.

I would have been pissed had they gotten a score or a big gain on that. The guard or tackle hopped up so it should have been blown dead and called offsides.

If Staley got kicked out for beating down Mathews I think it still would have been a good move.

Watch this at 26:47 and see who is in that fight. Rice was the first one there to protect his QB. Gotta protect him from shit like that. As Brett Jones said "That guy is messing with your super bowl ring"

Watch Mathews get a fine for the punches/slaps. It wasnt warranted and he already let his ego get the best of him by hitting Kap the way he did.

THANK YOU!! Listen to what Young says at that part.. You want your teammates to have your back. If a guy gets hit like that and nobody comes to his side... that QB is gone. It means they don't respect him and won't fight for him.

Matthews is a mongoloid.

Staley never shoulda been flagged, and quite possibly, Matthews, ejected. Egregious personal foul, followed by the "first punch".

I know I am biased, but that's Bush League for a "star".

I thought this incident was a nonissue. I didn't think Staley deserved a flag, they scored, dead issue.

As for Clay, he never tries to injure people and rarely pushes the line. He got carried away trying to make a tackle on Kaep, and it wasn't even a hard hit. It was a mistake and he accepted that.

Now... Remember a few years ago when Urlacher broke his forearm and ended his season when he gave Rodgers an intimidation shot 7 yards out of bounds? Fuck off...

Good game 49ers. Your team is loaded.

Wasn't a hard hit? He clotheslined him out of bounds and slammed him to the ground with all his force around his neck area....

It was completely dirty and was a hard hit in a way that could have easily caused an injury. And then slapping staley? Give me a break. Mathews is as dirty as they come. Especially considering all of Mathews vitriol the week before about "hitting" kaepernick. Expect a fine from the league.

Also... notice that mathews feet don't leave the ground untill after kaepernick is well out of bounds.... Mathews is also a liar...

His arm hit his chest. Don't be a sensationalist ass about it. Leave that to FOX News.

Mathews claimed he left his feet before kaepernick went out of bounds. He didn't. When Mathews gets fined this week.... thats why.

Is he lying or was he just wrong..

And have you actually read what he said before the game? It was NOTHING. When he said the word "hit" he literally was just talking about the new rule. Harbaugh, with his usual big mouth and overreaction, made it a bigger deal than it was.
