Based on…
There are the occasional players/hitters who don't do as well against the inconsistent pitching in the minors as they do against big league pitchers, rare though it is. The only thing is advanced stats saying it might not be repeatable but like @sf1giantfan said I have irrational Faith he will be near the player he showed last year...Fingers crossed! :hope::nod:

Fried off the board. Need Flaherty or one of the Japanese guys. I don’t think we can compete for Burnes.

FWIW Corbin Burnes is close to a year younger than Max Fried. If Fried is getting 8 years, there's a good chance that Scott Boras is pushing for 7+ with Burnes.

ESPN today:

"the path has been cleared for Corbin Burnes to ink the highest offseason contract for a pitcher this winter. The Giants remain the favorites for his services, which likely will come at a cost closer to $300 million than $200 million.”

Yikes. But this is what it costs to play with the big boys. Sucks to be in the Dodgers division.

I’d rather be a fan of a team that takes these shots than one that never would.

If we had a choice, should we get Burnes or one of the Japanese pitchers. Unfortunately more than likely the dodgers will get at least one of the Japanese pitchers maybe both.

Jeff Passan just now:

BREAKING: The Boston Red Sox are finalizing a trade to acquire left-hander Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox, sources tell ESPN. The deal is in the medical phase. Not official, but trending toward it.

This takes the Red Sox off the table for Burnes, I would think. With NYY, NYM, and LAD out, and TOR unable to reach his number, he should be a Giant.
