If Schmitt is used what would be the ideal configuration between the two?
Seems like 6 of one and half dozen of the other type scenario to me. Not sure why the Giants would play Chapman out of position for a month (or 3 months) when they have to fill a hole on the left side regardless of where he slots.

Was Fitz’ defense at short really that bad. He wasn’t GG, but I never felt like he was a liability.
I've heard he was below average and that he was average. What little I've read says that the different defensive metrics were split in that area. However, some who watched him said that he was improving as the season went on. Apparently, Chapman doesn't think much about him at short. Neither does Posey.

I’m guessing there must be a problem signing Kim. Might be concerned with his injury not healing properly or in time.

And we got Adames. Not much of an upgrade if he continues to play defense like last year but he can bounce back to 2023 or 2022 defensive standards then this is an excellent move.

I am not familiar with his defense. But I get the sense he is an offense first player.

I am not a huge fan of this move. Look at his OPS+ numbers, and he is mid AT BEST.

At a $26M aav, that is a steep price tag.

Sign Kim for 2B?

Sign Kim for SS and move Adames to 2B?

Thanks for some clarification, but there is the fact that the Giants haven't had two guys on the left side of the infield who can hit 25 plus homeruns though it occurs to me that Fitzy could keep SS and Chappy moves to 2nd Just Dunno at this point.

P.S. if Fitzy is good for near 20 that would change some things especially to driving in runs at a higher clip with the extra power.

Get this notion of moving Chappy off 3B out of your head. That ain’t happening. He offered to cover SS for a short term if needed in order to accommodate Kim. Chappy is an all-time great defensive 3B. It benefits no one to move him off that. Especially to a low priority defensive position like 2B.

26M for 3-4 WAR isn't "steep."

He's a fringe All Star and down ballot MVP.

I don't think the D is "questionable" -- generally solid
Much closer to 120 OPS+

again, a fringe all star
Defensive metrics are much more subjective than offensive so I understand that it is hard to measure a player with them. That being said, his OAA slipped a lot in 2024. The “experts” think that is a blip. If so, then this is a good signing. If that is the start of a troubling trend, then it is a poor signing, for the cost and years. He is a really good hitter for shortstop so I’m hoping his fielding is really good going forward. Not sure I expect much value from him the last 3 years of this deal.

It really depends upon how he's used over the last three years. If he's a DH/1B and putting up 25 bombs I think we'll be ok.

And waste Fitz? Not possible
Why does everyone want to sign a replacement level shortstop at best when we have a crowd there now? Just because he’s friends with our center fielder? Hard pass on Kim.

He’s nowhere near the MVP ballot and fringe all star is his ceiling. But I like the signing. That’s the rate we have to pay for hitters.
