It is curious. Then again, they have access to vast information we do not. Maybe they knew they weren't getting Burnes or Fried and moved quickly to secure what they could.

One area of the Giants roster that they'll likely need to break up is the Wilmer Flores, LaMonte Wade Jr., and Jerar Encarnación group at 1B/DH. That's a lot of roster spots and not enough defensive versatility/production.
I love Wilmer, but he is a negative asset at this point. He will likely be DFA’d to make room before ST.

Jerar is a tough subject. His defense is better than you would think (in the OF, he is not a 1B), but is his hit tool enough to carry him? I am not convinced yet, though I like what I have seen from him.

Wade a great place holder. But he is made of glass. What would we be able to get for him in a trade? I suspect that his price would not be enough to make it worth it, unless they are simply making room for Eldridge.

I do agree that Flores should be the first of the group dumped. I doubt Wade would bring much back considering his lack of power (for a 1st baseman) and health questions, if the Giants were to trade him. It would be interesting to know how the Giants view Encarnacion’s hit tool.
Back to Wade, did the Giants move him to 1st base due to a crowded outfield, to keep him healthy or was his defense lacking that much in the outfield?

Good question. I never really understood the move myself. I always thought his OF defense was at worst passable (but I ignorantly thought it was pretty good). I suspect it was more of a position of need and we had excess OFers.

Is there any way to lookup what these projections were in the past to compare them to actuality?

I certainly hope he does that well in 2025 but I expect him to be closer to .268/.320/.398 for the year.

What pitcher should we get / end up getting?

1) Burnes
2) Tomoyuki Sugano (Free Agent)
3) Roki Sasaki ( To be posted)
4) Sean Manaea
5) Justin Verlander
6) Max Fried
7) Max Scherzen
8) Someone else I can’t think of

And can’t the Giants defer some of the signing money
Like the dodgers have been doing?

That was Ohtani’s idea because he makes so much from other sources. A regular non superstar will want their money up front.

Snell did the same thing, might be a trend.
Besides Ohtani and Snell, I believe that a couple other recent (past couple of offseasons) free agent signings with the Dodgers have deferred some money. Ohtani's is just the highest amount of deferred money, by far.

I would like us to look into Tomoyuki Sugano, no fees since he is a free agent and will cost less than Sasaki. And although he is older he has been still putting up good numbers.

Except he isn't going to cost less than Sasaki. Sasaki is still an "amateur" so there is a cap to how much a team can sign him. Sugano has no such restrictions. However, he is old for a guy just coming over to MLB so he may not be too much more than Sasaki but then again I wasn't expecting Montas or Boyd to get what they've signed for this offseason.

Also including some deferred payments are Dodger's contracts to Hernandez, Smith, Freeman, Edman, and Betts. Total approx 1 billion w/ Othani deferring 680 mil.

Not really sure how helpful this would be. If Chapman fills the temporary hole at shortstop, who fills the temporary hole at 3rd base? Seems to be a net zero idea.

If Schmitt is used what would be the ideal configuration between the two?
