1) We first got a better manager with top notch coaches
2) Got rid of guys like Stripling, Haniger, DeSclafani,
3) Brought in Ray, Small, Snell, Chapman, Soler, Hicks, Lee

Wasn’t a fan of Chapman or Snell but with the very short contracts, it works.

I give FZ a solid B, maybe a B+ if everything works out in our favor.

Brutal grading curve dude.

You remind me of my CrimLaw professor in first year.

I have to applaud FZ on rhe FA season. I didn't think he could or would pull something like this off. He has made the 2024 season special for us. There is some real hope that we will be force to be watched. When Cobb and Ray return to the rotation we could actually be Tzill's Rotation Of Doom ... going to be fun ........
I have zero expectations for Ray. The first year back from TJ is usually pretty rough. But next year, I expect him to be a force.

Just looking at the moves we made this year, I can’t really complain. We can quibble about how effective this guy or that guy will be, but overall, I like what was done.

But setting the expectations of the fanbase super high by PUBLICLY going big for fish that we lost out on (AGAIN) started the whole off season on the wrong foot.

Gotta think the starting staff is much improved with Snell than without. Probably a performance push between Chapman and J.D. Could have just come down to Melvin being more comfortable with Chappie.

Over all defense and pitching upgrades. Offensive ceiling is higher with Soler, Ahmed, Lee and Bailey (hopefully getting over frosh fatigue).

Definitely a more interesting team. FZ and Melvin's challenge will be to develop players to replace Forto, Yaz, Wade, Chappie, Wilmer and Ahmed in upcoming seasons

FZ was swinging and missing at first and it didn’t look too good. But he made it work after all. I’m kinda somewhat sorta impressed. Thumbs up from me.

Think we'll get worse production out of shortstop than last year?
In 2023, Crawford posted a .587 OPS (63 OPS+) while Ahmed posted a .560 OPS (53 OPS+).
Ahmed just turned 34. Take away 2022 (he only played 17 games) and 2020 and the last year he posted even close to league average numbers was 2019 (93 OPS+) and that was a career year for him(at 29 years old). I don’t think there is much upside there.

Don’t know how true this is or just a PR piece, but I’ve seen on the Twitter sphere that he’s changed his swing once he was DFA’d last year. I still don’t expect much, but maybe his spring might show that at the least he’s better than Craw last year on offense

He is a capable seat warmer, and little else. Once Fitz, Schmitt or Lucy stand up and demand the PT, they will get it.

Per MLBTR:
“Snell declined a qualifying offer from the Padres. The Giants already forfeited their second-round pick and $500K of international bonus pool space to add Chapman. They’ll lose their third-rounder (#87 overall) and another $500K from their international bonus pool for Snell.”
