No clue. I don’t offer ideas on that front myself. I am completely ignorant when it comes to other org’s needs and inventories.Out of curiosity, who do you see as possible "gets" on a trade?

Fair enough. I don't really know who would possibly be available either. Its easier to have an idea during the season than in the offseason. I know that Juan Soto is possibly available and should be available more cheaply than the last trade for him (due to proximity to free agency) but does the Padres trade to a division rival? If so, would it cost more? And how likely would he be willing to sign an extension after the trade?Who knows. But if we take advantage of our market strengths (signing fa pitchers), it allows us to more freely trade from our organizational strength (young pitching).
I don’t know other team’s farms. I know our farm by reputation only (I have never scouted a single Giants prospect myself). So my argument is in theory only.
And what does BoMel think of Soto? Did they have a good relationship? Does BoMel think Soto is worth acquiring?Fair enough. I don't really know who would possibly be available either. 1. I'm not taking anyone off the tableBut if you are taking Webb/Harry or anyone else we actually like off the table, than FA is the only route.
I'll be surprised if they DON'T sign Yamamoto. The bat? We shall see. Doubt it will be Ohtani or BellingerSign Yamamoto and Snell. That solidifies the rotation.
Then shoot for the stars on a trade for a bat, while putting EVERY asset we have on the table (including Webb, Harry, Luciano, Bailey, Estrada…. Whoever!!).
Theoretically, we have a market advantage in being able to sign FA pitchers. Let’s utilize that advantage and fill in bats through other means.
You'd have to know how Schmit, Luciano, Estrada, Bailey, Matos, Ramos, Sabol, Fitz, Martin, Arias, McCray, Meckler, Arteaga, Brown, Pomares, etc. turn out. It's the most immediate and least painful, compared to trades (which hurt to give people up) and waiting for the farm to produce a bat (it's been a while)
All I'm saying is we're probably screwed as far as getting a legit lineup in the next couple of years.
Of all the options, with the limited knowledge I have, I think signing Yamamoto and then trading for a bat is better than signing either of the above. I love Ohtani, but I still think he’s getting $500M and Belly scares me. So far, the outlier in the most recent seasons has been the good one.I'll be surprised if they DON'T sign Yamamoto. The bat? We shall see. Doubt it will be Ohtani or Bellinger
I don't see any studs coming from that group but happy to be wrong. Do we really think Matos or Luciano are going to be Seager/Garcia/Carroll/Marte level offensive players (to pick the ones that were in the World Series)? These others? You'd have to know how Schmit, Luciano, Estrada, Bailey, Matos, Ramos, Sabol, Fitz, Martin, Arias, McCray, Meckler, Arteaga, Brown, Pomares, etc. turn out.
Of course, and don't let me stop you. Fandom is exactly this, assuming the best and being optimistic in the offseason. I just don't personally feel very optimistic considering where we are and what's realistic to make it better in the short run. We'll be good again but I don't see how in the next couple years.I'm not going to be pessimistic in November. That's just silly.
I think Luciano CAN be a stud. He is still young and the scouts still really like him. I am still not sold on his future as a SS, but I am not closing the door on his bat just yet. Matos i think has a ceiling of a #3 OFer.I don't see any studs coming from that group but happy to be wrong. Upgrade our pitching with Yamamoto and Snell then down grade it by taking away Webb? Webb has proven himself with the Giants, Yamamoto has not even proven it in the majors yet. I hope we get Yamamoto because of the possibilities but why take away a sure thing like Webb?Sign Yamamoto and Snell. That solidifies the rotation.

If we want to add a major bat, we have to give something up. This isn’t MLB:The Show. You can’t get Barry Bonds for 7 AA throw away players. That doesn’t happen in the real world.Upgrade our pitching with Yamamoto and Snell then down grade it by taking away Webb? Didn't he pretty much say that he would stay put for 2024 during the season?Report: Stripling opts into Giants contract for 2024 season
Ross Stripling reportedly will remain with the Giants next season after a disappointing 2023 campaign.www.nbcsportsbayarea.com
Not a surprise.
Yes but we were hoping he was a fool and try and get some more money somewhere elseDidn't he pretty much say that he would stay put for 2024 during the season?
I hope Brebbia comes back and I would be OK with Alexander, Junis and Wood.LHP Scott Alexander, RHP John Brebbia, SS Brandon Crawford, RHP Jakob Junis, OF Joc Pederson, C Roberto Pérez and LHP Alex Wood become free agents
The Giants will have five days to negotiate exclusively with their own free agents, which is known as the "quiet period." Free agents will be eligible to sign with any team beginning on Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. PT.
I wouldn't mind one of Alexander or Junis returning and really hope that Crawford officially retires (I assume that Perez will likely do the same). The rest I am fine landing somewhere else for 2024.LHP Scott Alexander, RHP John Brebbia, SS Brandon Crawford, RHP Jakob Junis, OF Joc Pederson, C Roberto Pérez and LHP Alex Wood become free agents

I thought the Kapler/Brebbia incident swayed you away from wanting him back (or was that Stokes?).I hope Brebbia comes back and I would be OK with Alexander, Junis and Wood.
I will lose no sleep if we lose any of them, and I would guess Brebbia is a 50/50 while the others are almost certainly going to leave.
Before that I was fully in the “bring him back” camp. The fact I am now “meh” is a big shift.I thought the Kapler/Brebbia incident swayed you away from wanting him back (or was that Stokes?).
