I mean.....I have always liked Civale more than most- but they are definitely selling at the highest point he has had.....having said that- 2 more years of control after this one and all the pitching injuries.....

most innings Civale has ever pitched ina major league season is only 124......

Guardians just sell, sell, sell and somehow still win the division. Problem is, it’s a shit division and they give themselves zero shot to compete for a WS against the top teams.

This is a fucking stupid move for a couple reasons.
They already have 3 rookie starters.
3 starters on IL.
The prospect they traded for while he has a good eye projects less than average power for a 1B.

Guardians acquired 1B Kyle Manzardo from the Rays for RHP Aaron Civale.
This seems like a nice get for the Guardians. They were able to sell high on Civale — as they have plenty of depth in their starting rotation once everyone is healthy heading into the 2024 season — and in turn they add a strong bat to their pipeline that was ranked as a top-100 prospect across the board coming into the year. The 23-year-old slugger was the Rays’ second-round pick from the 2021 draft and has hit .238/.342/.442 with 11 homers, 38 RBI and a 65/42 K/BB ratio in 313 plate appearances at Triple-A Durham this season. He’s probably more of a designated hitter than a first baseman in the long run, but there’s intriguing power potential in his bat.

Manzardo is projected as a 50 power hitter.

Compare him to say, Josh Naylor, who was projected to be a 55 power hitter. Naylor had 20 HR's in his 4th full MLB season at the age of 25 and has 15 so far through 95 games.

I hope the kid works out but he seems more of a pure hitter and he has a good eye than a power hitter. We will see.
