Grossman is okay. He knows how to get on base but doesn't have the pop of someone like Belt (much less Williamson or Shaw) and his defense measures out poorly. However, he is also young (for a free agent) so he may be able to post a career year in 2019.
Joyce, on the other hand is a bit older (34) and has been wildly inconsistent. He bookend two good years (2016 & 2017) with two awful seasons (2015 & 2018). Considering his age, I feel that he was not be an upgrade from a struggling Williamson or Shaw at all.

I really wanted Chisenhall (okay REALLY is an exaggeration, but compared to this group I do). I think you shared that sentiment.

Yes I did. I had him in my top 10 free agent hitters and thought he could be had relatively cheaply, but even I was surprised at the deal he signed with the Pirates. That seemed exactly like the deal that the FO would have wanted. I do wonder if they even explored what it would have taken to get him.

He was like the first FA to sign, IIRC. I'll bet the Giants looked at him, but they were probably still getting organized by the time he signed.

Granderson to the Marlins on a minor league deal (I wouldn't have mind him in spring training and if he looked good, make him the 4th outfielder. Better than many of the alternatives. Oh well).
Top 10 remaining outfield free agents: Bryce Harper, Robbie Grossman, Marwin Gonzalez, Carlos Gonzalez, Melky Cabrera, Adam Jones, Denard Span, Gerardo Parra, Matt Joyce and Cameron Maybin.

Chatter now is with the teams all reluctant to give those two 7-8 year $300 mil deals, they might sign short term and try again in a year or two, they will still be pretty young

No chance they sign with the Giants in that scenario.

The Mets just re-signed Devon Mesoraco to a minor league deal with a spring invite. I wouldn't have minded the Giants signing him to a similar deal. Just means its more likely Hundley returns. He's the best remaining catcher on the market.

You all have probably already read this but, just in case, here's an article on the team's visit with Bryce Harper and Scott Boras - Zaidi: Harper, Giants have 'mutual interest' after meeting

Its just a gut feeling but I think we've got a strong chance to land him and may just do that.
