Met Hunter Pence at a charity event last night at AT&T, he's super nice and good sense of humor.
So, where is he playing next year?Met Hunter Pence at a charity event last night at AT&T, he's super nice and good sense of humor.
Did you call him Herc?Met Hunter Pence at a charity event last night at AT&T, he's super nice and good sense of humor.
No but we had some fun remembering those funny signs people would hold up like "Hunter Pence eats pizza with a fork" and "Hunter Pence thinks Game of Thrones is just ok"Did you call him Herc?
That was such a perfec nic for him. Too bad it never got past this board.
Obviously I didn't ask but it feels like he's gonna retireSo, where is he playing next year?
Yeah, my question was tongue in cheek. Did you get that sense about retirement from your conversation with him or just where he is in age and his career and the season he had in 2018?Obviously I didn't ask but it feels like he's gonna retire
Mostly the latter, we didn't talk at all about his futureYeah, my question was tongue in cheek. Did you get that sense about retirement from your conversation with him or just where he is in age and his career and the season he had in 2018?

Paul Goldschmidt has been traded away from the D-Backs, to the Cardinals

I realized earlier this year that he has taken a seat next to Clark as my co-favorite player of all time. It was impossible to watch him play without a big smile on your face. He clearly loves the game and plays every pitch at 150%. Gotta love that.he and his wife were on the 'happy hour' last night (local sf sports talk show). apparently he's revamping his body and swing ... heading down to the d.r. for winter ball
met him at our local coffee shop near att a few years ago. brought in a backpack full of his bobbleheads to give to patrons.... arrived on his scooter. one on the more down to earth athletes/celebs i've met.
wish him luck as long as it's not in the att outfield
FZ has said he wants a legit 2nd catcher. That implies he wants an upgrade from Hundley, or a guy who could be AT LEAST a platoon mate to Posey. That means they will be putting $$ into the position. Here is the list of free agent catchers, from youngest to oldest, still available: James McCann (28); Juan Graterol (29); Yasmani Grandal (30); Chris Hermann, Devin Mesoraco, Wilson Ramos (31); Caleb Joseph, Martin Maldonado (32); Jonathan Lucroy, Matt Wieters (33); Jose Lobaton (34); Drew Butera, Nick Hundley, Rene Rivera (35); AJ Ellis (38)
Of these, only Grandal and Ramos are certain to land full time gigs. Mesoraco, Maldonado, Lucroy and Wieters will probably platoon somewhere (and maybe McCann and Joseph). That leaves 7 to 9 catchers available as a backup to Posey. Hundley is probably the best of these options but I don't know how some of these guys grade out defensively and in pitch calling and framing.
There aren't many options out there in FA. I wonder if that means a trade. I guess he could try to talk Ramos or Grandal into some creative platoon with Posey but that means Belt gets sold low.FZ has said he wants a legit 2nd catcher. He's probably one of the only starters on the market worth considering but that price tag is steep. The Winter Meeting have started today.
Here's a potential name to look out for: Yusei Kikuchi.
He's a Japanese lefty, 27 years old. He's also apparently very interested in the Giants. Not a flame thrower, but has good off-speed stuff. Potential middle of the rotation guy.
Here's also something to keep in mind, FZ signed Kenta Maeda in 2016 to a complex contract. He might have some good background on Yusei Kikuchi, at least contractually. That may be grasping at straws, though. People are estimating a $40-$50 million dollar deal.
