I'll take JPA. Yes his bat isn't great but has some pop. Tho he can't play defense worth a damn from what I recall.

Yes I am in Plano and It's 31 degree and raining A LOT. I expect the roads to be covered with ice tomorrow since the temperatures will continue to go down overnight and tomorrow throughout the day.

Just be careful and try to sit all of your asses at home and waste your time on the MLB rumor mill and sport SportsHoopla :)

How defense is actually his best asset

Is it? I could have sworn it was him that I remember reading about in the Toronto papers and people that he's not much of a defender. Tho maybe I am thinking of somebody else.

At least they're working on something....

I kind of saw the Arencibia signing coming. The Rangers have liked him for a while, plus they thought about trading for him before he was non-tendered. He does have 7 HR in just 43 AB at Rangers Ballpark, so the power potential is a plus. But God help us if Geovany Soto has to miss any significant amount of time. For what power Arencibia does bring to the table, he more than makes up for it with his below average defense and putrid OBP.

I think you are confusing him with someone else. Arencibia is very mediocre defensively. His only real asset is his power.

Couldn't be much worse than AJ..... That fucker never worked the count and Beltre barely got any protection.

No, you're right. Hambombs is the one who is confused. Arencibia will never be mistaken for a solid defensive catcher.

I've also read a lot about Arencibia being a super nice guy and great teammate who does a lot of work for kids' charities. So at least we filled our empty Team Saint position vacated by Murphy.

It's not a trade terps. He's a FA. He was non-tendered.

Edit: I didn't know others had already stated this. I hate that this site doesn't auto update

The text said "we got arencibia!" I guess I was confused about his status and assumed it was a trade. Sorry for the confusion. This is great news imo. We were trying to get him a few days ago for prospects and to my knowledge we actually almost had a deal but then toronto wanted to explore other options. But now we're getting him for free? Uhhhh okay awesome

Now that I think about it though, it makes sense. The scouts aren't even working until the winter meetings, so trades are highly unlikely right now from us lol. Should've thought it through, sometimes you get excited when getting a text like that!

I am stuck awake tonight with major acid reflux...shit seriously blows. I hacked up a bunch of orange phlegm/bile.

Acquiring JPA is a move with some risk, but I think it's a good risk. He will have a good coach to work with in Texas, and hopefully the move will help his confidence. He's a backup catcher, so I won't be expecting a Napolian type 2011 second half from him or anything.

I've always liked JPA. I don't know why, but I've always thought he was very good. I think its because he had SO much hype coming up. But I'm looking at his numbers now and I'm shocked at how low they are.

But I mean, what better of a guy to learn from then soto? He teaches the pitchers very well, I can only imagine how well he teaches young catchers. If I'm not mistaken, JPA STILL has a lot of growth to do, despite almost being 28. Sometimes some guys just need a new change in scenery

Sorry to hear that Rev. I just looked out and there is a thick coating of white. Not sure if it is ice underneath or what but it will be bad on the roads here. Oldest son was to work a double at the hospital today. Hope he stays home or his 30 min drive could take hours.

At least it should be a low cost risk so we are not out a ton of money if he tanks. But I think the return on the small investment should be fine.

Jay Z stepped and the deal was killed by the Mariners. He went back to the 10 yr $252 mill deal and the Mariners wisely walked away.
