I'll take JPA. Yes his bat isn't great but has some pop. Tho he can't play defense worth a damn from what I recall.

How defense is actually his best asset
At least they're working on something....

I kind of saw the Arencibia signing coming. The Rangers have liked him for a while, plus they thought about trading for him before he was non-tendered. He does have 7 HR in just 43 AB at Rangers Ballpark, so the power potential is a plus. But God help us if Geovany Soto has to miss any significant amount of time. For what power Arencibia does bring to the table, he more than makes up for it with his below average defense and putrid OBP.
Is it? I could have sworn it was him that I remember reading about in the Toronto papers and people that he's not much of a defender. Tho maybe I am thinking of somebody else.
Couldn't be much worse than AJ..... That fucker never worked the count and Beltre barely got any protection.
No, you're right. Hambombs is the one who is confused. Arencibia will never be mistaken for a solid defensive catcher.
It's not a trade terps. He's a FA. He was non-tendered.
Edit: I didn't know others had already stated this. I hate that this site doesn't auto update
Now that I think about it though, it makes sense. The scouts aren't even working until the winter meetings, so trades are highly unlikely right now from us lol. Should've thought it through, sometimes you get excited when getting a text like that!
I am stuck awake tonight with major acid reflux...shit seriously blows. I hacked up a bunch of orange phlegm/bile.
Acquiring JPA is a move with some risk, but I think it's a good risk. He will have a good coach to work with in Texas, and hopefully the move will help his confidence. He's a backup catcher, so I won't be expecting a Napolian type 2011 second half from him or anything.
