Maybe they get Eovaldi but would not be surprised if we trade for Montgomery

Surely they won’t shoot the financial wad on him and leave nothing for the pen

Surely we don’t sign Robbie and especially Jankman unless Leody is traded which I consider highly unlikely

It hard to evaluate Huff, when Bochy has never gave him a fair chance to see what he can do.
We will get a chance to evaluate him when he starts for another team.

Looks like the White Sox about to hire Venables as their manager. There had been talk about him being the next Rangers manager. Sure hate to lose him.

Alejandro Osuna was 5 fir 6 with a double and a HR, Tuesday night. Acosta had 3 hits, as well, including a double.

It seems that Osuna is proving that he should be considered as really good minor league depth in the OF, including CF. Him and Harris both should be in that category.

If Abimelec Ortiz starts out hot in AAA he could move into that category as well. He started off very slowly in AA this year, but showed he had acclimated to that level very well in the second half of the season. If he takes to AAA quickly, that greatly improves our 2025 depth.

It would be great to have a legitimate prospect who could play 1B and the OF the way Ortiz and Hartis can. We haven't had very much legitimate depth for 1B in awhile.

Maybe 2025 will be when Guitterez and Morrobel become significant prospects again.

It will be interesting to see how quickly Dreiling and Cook move through the system. A year from now maybe we can be as excited about our hittung prospects as we can be now about our pitching prospects.

Of course, we could lose some of those possibilities if we make very many trades. I have read various scenarios where the Rangers could trade away some veterans, so maybe almost all of the prospects survive, at least until the July 2025 deadline. I have read about the possibilities of trading Taveras, Lowe, Gray, and Dunning.

half bag of batting practice balls for Tavares
full bag for Dunning
couple of middle to low level prospects for Lowe

won't we need Gray for long relieve

A lot of the local baseball writers like to mention that Semien's down year is just part of a cycle with him, that he does well every other year, and 2025 will be his year to do well again. The alternative could mean he has started his age-related decline, and they don't ever consider that as a possibility.

Let's say you believe he does have a cycle he goes through, where he does well every other year and the other years he slumps. If that is the case, wouldn't it be wise to trade him a year from now when you expect 2 of the last 3 years of his contract to be his slumping years?

I think so, but I have read they will look to move him and replace him with a cheaper option.

I would keep both him and Dunning as starting pitching depth. In fact, I don't have a problem with one of them being depended on to be in the rotation.

I heard on the mlbtraderumors.com podcast just now that they also feel the Rangers could trade Taveras, Gray, and Dunning. They didn't mention Lowe.

From Baseball America’s article titled,

5 Arizona Fall League Prospects With MLB Potential Flying Under The Radar

"This one is cheating a little bit, since Church has already reached the big leagues. He missed most of the 2024 season with a lat injury but recovered to pitch 25.2 innings in the minors and one appearance with Texas. He absolutely needs to be more consistent, but at his best, he has the pitch mix to be dominant. Church works with two pitches—a mid-90s fastball and a mid-80s slider—with a ton of movement on each. The fastball averaged nearly 18 inches of induced vertical break in 2024, and the slider showed a combination of depth and sweep away from righthanders."

"Church’s mix is amplified by more than 6.5 feet of extension in his delivery. His command and control have wavered throughout his career, but he has still punched out nearly 13 hitters per nine innings during his time in the minor leagues. With a more consistent, higher-quality strikes, Church could become a regular in the Rangers’ bullpen."
