Had to do something to shake this place up.

Hang in there, DT. Let the winter meetings and JD work their magic. In a short time this board will be jumping with excitement!

Ya its not done yet, but I'm told that its close. A few days ago I posted that they had spoken about it, but I didn't know any names. They ended those discussions off after texas sent an offer toronto didn't like. So pure speculation on my part, but maybe toronto shopped him over the past few days and realized they weren't gonna get an offer better than what we offered so they took it.

I wouldnt expect a huge loss off of this trade. Toronto was really trying to ship him

Jays non-tendered him which basically made him a FA and able to sign with Texas. He would have cost us a player to send to the Jays but he wouldn't agree to a deal to avoid arbitration. All we had to do was wait and sign him as best I can tell after they non tendered him

Exactly. We won't lose any prospects.

I just hope he can hit above 220

If not we just may have replaced Murph's production, though JP won't play everyday. Not much for avg. or OBP but has thump in his bat and hear he's decent defensively and is a hard worker

That may be difficult when you're a back up.

He may get more at bats than we realize. The Texas heat can take it's toll on a catcher. I certainly wouldn't expect a 50/50 split, but wouldn't be surprised to see him catch 60 games.

It's not a trade terps. He's a FA. He was non-tendered.

Edit: I didn't know others had already stated this. I hate that this site doesn't auto update

I think you got it about right. Soto is heavy and will face a big test. So 60 may be about right. His avg doesn't concern me. He averages around 22-23 Hr the last 3 yrs so he can put some runs on the board.

Yeah it should be fine from a backup catcher just not so much from the guy playing LF everyday

If they get this deal done, the biggest hole jd needs to fill is left field, and he has some options there. I think Beltran would be my preference on a two year deal with a third year option, but it depends on how bad he wants that third year guaranteed versus how badly he wants to play for a winner.

Cruz is also a decent backup option, and that leaves dh. I think other than Napoli, my dh preference would be hart since he wouldn't cost a draft pick of I'm not mistaken.

Hart or Morales. If you get Beltran you can get Morales and it will only cost 1 pick because you get 1 back from Nelly.

If we end up addressing our needs with any combination of the guys you mention here, I would be fine with that. Arencibia and Soto save us 80 something million by not signing McCann and means if JD decided to add a 4 or 5 starter as insurance if our rotation isn't healthy then I believe that is still an option this way. Obviously we wouldn't be paying Cruz 75 million i don't think
