The Yankees will up their offer to 200. I think he will take less to go back to NY

It's funny, I said in the beginning they were asking 300 mil so 225 would look like a bargain.

I can't see him leaving NY either, but the same was said of Puljos, but there was a big difference in what the Angels were offering than the wiser St Louis. (If you believe Puljos)
I'm starting to think he'll take less too, the question is how much

Jay Z stepped and the deal was killed by the Mariners. He went back to the 10 yr $252 mill deal and the Mariners wisely walked away.

Hadn't heard this. Jay and team are stepping in their own shit as this point.

Now, what do the M's do if they come back to them and say, we'll take the $220 M, or whatever their original offer was. What's their stance on signing him at all now?

you've got to be kidding me....WOW

Plus from the sounds of the article out on MLBTR that the Mariners are through messing with them. Look at this quote:

However, a late change by agent Jay-Z in which he once again demanded $252MM over 10 years caused Mariners CEO Howard Lincoln to "explode," prompting the meeting to end.

Now they have just come out and say that the Mariners and and the reps for Cano are talking again.

If you walk into the room and someone offers you a king's ransom, even more than you were seeking, would you accept it? The Angels offers to both Hamilton and Pujols were more than either side ever thought they would get. And you remember Tom Hicks and A-Rod. Hicks offered him $50 M more than the nearest bidder. Now that my be the definition of insanity, not greed.

If Cano asks and one team say yes, it's not greed IMO. Foolishness for sure, and even worse business.

Agree if they offer it but the offer goes out the window and the price goes up b/c $220 MIL is not enough. That is greed IMO.

I really think this is all just a game, and I know this is completely unrealistic but how funny would it be if the rangers swept in late and swiped Cano like they did Beltre.

I wouldn't be surprised I guess but I'm not sure they want to commit the number of years to a guy on the wrong side of 30. It's just a recipe for disaster.

Yes it is. Lots can happen in ten years.

I don't think they do either. It's just not smart baseball business. Other than a trade I'm not seeing, I think the best moves Texas can make is to sign Beltran as a stop gap, and Napoli to dh.

I just read that, and an early morning report today saying talks are back on. Mariners saying they will still add players even with Cano, and are now out on Choo?
The whole thing is crazy

If they are not careful they will handcuff themselves like the Angels have.

I agree with ya. Even at $175 M for 7/8 years is some scary territory.

I'm expecting the M's do do what the Angels did with Hamilton; here's our final offer, sign now, or once you leave the room the offer has expired.

Would you all be willing to give Trout a 10 year contract when the time comes? I hate long contracts but I would have to think about it because he brings so much to the table.

I agree it seems to be a game, Jay-Z sweeps in and asks for more money....CEO's head apparently explodes, but now talks are back on.
