That is because people are stupid, Like jeff van gundy constantly saying change the rule. No, how about you make your free throws and then they won't hack you. The only rule they need to change is allowing hand checking again because it is getting ridiculously with the guard play.

Exactly. Plenty of guys have started off as bad free throw shooters and improved. Karl Malone and Tim Duncan were both horrible early in their careers and eventually became very good free throw shooters. Shaq never exactly became a good free throw shooter, but started hitting them when he had to. In all 3 cases, the intentional fouls stopped once they showed that it no longer worked.

Griffin used to be quite awful, but I think he actually practiced during the offseason and is now okay at them.

Same for Whiteside. In early November an December teams hacked him. He worked on his fts and now he is over 60% which is all you need to be to avoid the hacking strategy

If they change the rule, it will only remove the incentive to improve free throwing.

DEFINITELY...!

Duncan was one of the absolute WORST. practically every FT he shot was of the "frozen rope" variety. but he forced himself to get better. gotta respect that...

The pistons are doing a great job of deflating the crowd and preventing them from getting involved
