I will never vote for ARod.i agree... but if clemens is having this much trouble getting voted in... just imagine how much trouble AROD will have when we start throwing him in every vote...

This really does paint Pedro as a top 5 prime of all time across all players imo. You're for sure getting the best 5 years. Are those 5 years enough to hold off position players with 10-15 really good to great years?I want to go back to the pitcher debates. Maybe this should be for the next round (if necessary, I'll repost it then). Below are the ERA+ buckets for the main pitchers that have been discussed in previous threads whom have not been enshrined yet in a ranking.
Name 200+ 190-199 180-189 170-179 160-169 150-159 140-149 130-139 120-129 Grover Alexander 1 0 0 1 4 1 0 1 8Roger Clemens 3 1 0 3 2 1 2 4 1Lefty Grove 1 0 3 1 3 2 1 2 0Randy Johnson 0 3 3 1 0 2 0 3 1Greg Maddux 2 0 2 1 2 2 1 0 2Pedro Martinez 5 0 1 0 3 0 2 0 3Christy Matthewson 2 0 0 0 3 3 0 3 1Kid Nichols 0 0 0 2 2 1 1 4 2Tom Seaver 0 1 0 1 1 0 4 2 4Cy Young 1 1 0 1 1 2 4 3 3

I will never vote for ARod.
Not what I MEANT to say. Just saying that he had much better longevity than those guys.
Im of the opinion that its not enough to get this high. Its basically Trout (who some people have this high)That's the question, Jimmy
I get it. I feel the same way about someone......I will never vote for ARod.
This doesn’t put ERA+ in the garbage, but it does highlight a problem with ERA and ERA+. IP CANNOT be ignored, imho. Just look at the number of outs recorded by Maddux vs the number of outs recorded by Pedro. Maddux got almost twice as many outs as Pedro.but even his longevity, in the 5 seasons of 200+ ERA+ 2 of them was less than 200 innings... and he only had 7 sesaons with 200+ innings... so ERA+ can not be the KING stat for pitchers... maybe combining WAR for pitchers and ERA+ would be a better quick glance...
Mine is based on benchmarks and onfield. Yours is based on feels.I get it. I feel the same way about someone......

Whats crazy is that I think you could probably make an argument for Clemens as high as 6th or so. Ill admit I wasnt that high on him but we're reaching the point of absurdity in terms of him just never having the votesyea... pedro probably had the best one or 2 seasons of the 4... but he loses to the other 4 in EVERYTHING else...

Pedro led the league in WHIP as many times as Randy and Clemens COMBINED in their zillion seasons of pitching? Dear lord.Roger Clemens 1984 - 2007

Yeah he's got some stuff that pops out. The WAR he achieved in less starts/IP. And I know people are down on the Win stat but it's not nothing and he has one of the highest winning percentages ever for a long time starter.Pedro led the league in WHIP as many times as Randy and Clemens COMBINED in their zillion seasons of pitching?
