And again, I am not stumping Rickey for this spot. He is at best #3 here, imho.

I just don’t think his inclusion in the discussion here is so stupid.

But if I am putting together a dream team, I still think he has a decent shot at being my starting LF. We don’t need a lineup full of boppers. Rickey at the top of the lineup is the way to go, I think.
All time team and all time list are waaay different.

Can I use Young Bonds as my lead off and Old Bonds as my clean up hitter?

I think this deserves it own thread, but…

Off the top of my head…

C - Bench
1B - Pujols
2B - Hornsby
SS - Wagner
3B - Schmidt
LF - Bonds
CF - Mays
RF - Ruth
DH - Henderson
It must gall you to have to use the diabolical DH to get Henderson on the team

Give me the same team but Ted Williams as DH and Henderson as pinch runner.

Yeah they didn't have the DH then but I think we can all agree Williams is the ultimate example. Literally only cared about hitting, and did it better than anyone.

I don’t knock Teddy for his bad D the same way I knock Ortiz (or Edgar or Thomas or Molitor or…) because at least he took the field. He had to have a bat that was strong enough to offset his crap D. Another player can’t say “I can’t hit the curve, so dont throw it to me”, but Ortiz can say “I don’t know what this leather bowl-like thing is, so I won’t take the field”.

Only because that wasn't an option. If he played after 1973 he'd be a DH like Edgar and you'd think much less of him.

Was that their decisions or the manager's to put them at DH?

Ifs, ands and buts.

He took the field. The Sox felt the negativity of his glove, and he still earned his ABs.

None of that rebuts what I said though. He was a DH before that was an option. No one denies his bat was plenty good enough.

And the team felt the damage of his glove, and he still got his ABs. Other DHs use an obscene rule to not feel the negativity of the glove.

Sports is entertainment. It is theater for the knuckleheads. The greatest characters in literature are complex. They have strengths and weaknesses. The characters who never have to deal with their weeknesses are typically called Mary Sues. DH is the deus ex machina of sports.
