I don't think they have been surprised by anything this offseason so far.

It is really an odd feeling this offseason being in the small minority that thinks it would be no big deal if the Rangers didn't make much bigger of a splash this offseason than they already have. This is new territory for me. Lol

It isn't an unreasonable position you have.
I'm not sure I'd want to hand out a contract as big as DeGrom or Rodón (who I had been big on signing before hearing he's likely getting 30+ million per year) are going to fetch.
Would like another quality starting pitcher but maybe a guy like Senga, Bassitt or Eovaldi. Price range around or a somewhat higher than Jon Gray.
Would also prefer addressing LF internally.

Yeah I too am not gonna no to feel we failed in offseason moves if we did not land DeGrom or Rodon or even Senga who I would prefer but we do need another competent SP for next year. We are never going to buy a WS but some of our prospects especially pitchers need to come through.
Now is definitely no time to bail on them except maybe one lol

What are some of the most unexpected things that Chris Young could pull off over the next few days? Here are five that I have thought of.

1. Sign Verlander
2. Sign 2 of the top 4 pitchers(Verlander, Senga, Rodon, DeGrom)
3. Sign Aaron Judge
4. Blockbuster trade for Samdy Alcantara
5. Sign another top SS

Sign a SS and move one to 3B (Seager or the acquired)

Trade Jung, Duran, Smith, Winn, Roby & Vanasco to the Marlins for Alcantara & Steven Okert.

Sign Benintendi or Haniger for LF

I had suggested this a few weeks ago. Pop is gone now, but Okert would make a nice substitute.

Lowe,
Heim or Taveras
Acuna
Bratt
Acker or Teodo
Kelly

for:

Alcantara
Floro
Pop

I wouldn’t mind that trade either
Would you be open to getting Belt for 1 year to cover 1B?
Until Foscue or Crim or Harris can take over ?

If that trade happened, i wonder if they would move Jung to 1B and Smith to 3B for 2023.

Or, could Garver play 1B full time? Huff, if Heim is not in the trade?

1 and 2 aren't what I would call "unexpected." If 2 doesn't happen, I'd be a little let down, to be honest.

3 would be pretty unexpected, only because SF has publicly said they won't be outbid for Judge.

4 would be unexpected only because I don't see CY unloading the amount of prospects that would take (and I don't want him to).

5 would be batshit insane.

Boy, that is a very tall order. I think you are going to be a little let down.

From MLBTR:

Next week’s Winter Meetings are expected to open the floodgates for some hot stove activity, and among the free agents drawing substantial interest leading up to those meetings is longtime Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger. The 31-year-old (32 next month) has a “robust” market, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan, and colleague Buster Olney tweets that there’s a growing belief he’ll be able to secure a three-year contract — perhaps in the vicinity of $15MM per year.

Haniger has, to this point in the offseason, been linked to each of the Red Sox, Dodgers, Angels, Giants, Rangers and the Mariners, who are open to adding another outfielder even after acquiring Teoscar Hernandez from the Blue Jays last month. The Halos’ interest, it should be noted, was reported prior to their acquisition of Hunter Renfroe. It seems likely that move probably put an end to their pursuit of Haniger; the Angels also have Mike Trout and Taylor Ward locked into outfield.
