The Bills were hoping for a much bigger cap. Having to pay Milano $11M for a team that effectively has $6,240,000 in cap space, just put a massive crunch on what they were hoping to do in free agency. It becomes very hard to understand. They got crushed in the AFCCG and they were planning to replace John Brown with someone like Marvin Jones or Kenny Golladay. You have to remember that a teams space is based on their 51 highest paid players so to get under the cap, starters have to be cut. Guys like Milano are attractive to a lot of teams and the jets would overpay just to take him away from Buffalo, just like they do when patriots player becomes available. How long did it take them to grab Braxton Berrios?
We should cut Cam so the Dolphins can grab him!

Cap is an issue every year regardless of where it is set.

Bottom line Buf made their decision to keep and pay a quality guy. Every team has those types of decisions to make every year.

Buffalo is in good shape.

Why do you think that is?? Because BB has always liked him and the Bills knew that they either had to sign him or face him twice a year for the next three or four years .
or they just wanted him because they wanted him.

Braxton Berrios isn't a good example. He was a project and the money was dirt.

He was going to be a top-15 player in FA. Letting him walk would have opened up a big hole on their defense that was already starting to trend in the wrong direction. So makes sense to bring back one of your quality players as not only keeps a very good roster together but is a big boost for the locker room in guys seeing that you work hard and the team will take care of you.

Matt counts $8 million this year. He gets "Van Noyed" as soon as he gets hurt.

Patriots did Gilmore a solid last yearand bumped up his take home by pulling out $5M of this year's salary. Gilmore is now due to make $7.5M and that's what his cap hit will be. Problem is that he wants a monster contract and he want's it font loaded with a huge guarantee. He knows his is the last big one and he's ignoring the games that he missed last year to injuries, especially the knee at the end of the season.

It doesn't appear that Bill is going to give in and Gilmore doesn't seem to want to budge. It looks like Gilmore will be playing somewhere other than New England. Best guess is Arizona. Cards and Pats have alwaysseemed to be able to make trades and the Cards have come out on top in a couple of them. This could go either way, player for player or playerbfor picks.

So does this Cam deal mean the Pats will not target a QB early? I think it does!!!!
Well, if there is one thing, Cam's team mates love him.
Could be they will draft a QB early to get some reps behind a great team mate and mentor.
Or not.

WTF?
Didn't he just announce he was coming back this year?

Or did Bill tell him he was going to get cut?

Taking 2020 off for Covid made him realize that he didn't want to spend another year in pain. Probably worse than than 2019 because he's 3 years older.

Yeah that is a good point. He had plenty of time to think it over and think about his health and where he was mentally and physically. Sucks he won't be back but it's probably for the best and most likely will prevent any CTE issues

He was a true swiss army knife of a DB.
Slot corner, strong safety, small linebacker. Not a HOF safety , but it will take more than one to replace him.

Just heard that the Patriots may be extending Stephon Gilmore. They will bump up his $7.5M 2021 salary and offer him the same salary (Whatever the bump bring it to) for 2022 and 2023.
I just posted in another thread about BB trading him....

Patriots Wire 3/18/2021

The New England Patriots are trading tight end Ryan Izzo to the Houston Texans for a seventh round pick, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Izzo was a seventh-round pick out of Florida State in 2018, and has been with the Patriots for the last three seasons. He missed all of his rookie year on injured reserve, but has amassed 19 catches for 313 yards and a touchdown over the last two years. He entered the NFL with a reputation as a blocking tight end, but didn’t live up to those expectations.

Amid opt-outs, Izzo was thrust into the top tight end spot last season with 62% of the offensive snaps. He had just 13 catches for 199 yards.

Izzo’s departure comes in the wake of two major signings at tight end in free agency, with New England adding Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith. They will join a group that includes Matt LaCosse, Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene.
