NBC Sports Boston is reporting that the Patriots will not discuss a contract extension for Cam Newton during the 2020 season.

The most speculated reason is that They don't want a large amount of cap space dedicated to any player and have a serious injury sideline them.

If they can't come to an extension agreement, it is believed that the Patriots will Franchise Cam at the Franchise Tag price of approx. $30M.

(I know it's 2020, but this news affects 2021 and beyond)

Sounds like a plan.

But NBC Sports is wildly speculative and known for clickbait.
BB is wildly unpredictable and known for doing what he wants.

Don't sign him during the season. As I said before, make him earn it and still be "hungry" to prove everyone wrong"

Is there a no tag clause in Cam's contract if not his agent is an idiot. I expect Cam will be gone, Hoyer will be slinging Dunkin Donuts, Pats will pick up a FA QB and draft one.

Does that mean you like the Pats current QB situation?

A little less than I like the WR situation.

He is Franchise Tag eligible. The Pats always hedge their bets. This was Cam's only option before the season started and he wanted to be a starter and NE was the place. I'm not 100% sure they'll tag him at $30M. There will be a bunch of QBs available like Carr and Rodgers.....and others.

Unless Carr and Rodgers are released they won’t be available until ‘23 and ‘24.

Here are some available QB’s next year.

Prescott is the only one I think is better than Cam. And we aren’t getting him.

Pats are known for paying less, but not for screwing players over. Players want to be here because it's the land of opportunity... Screwing them would negate that advantage.

CAM is here for a big contract next year and is smart enough to know that 30 mill is a pretty good consolation prize. Best case is big money somewhere else, but the pats will get compensation somehow. He's already played well enough to get a good contract somewhere else, and even if they don't want him they'll get a high comp pick... That's the worst that will happen. Best is another team gives better in a trade... or the he negotiates like Tom and stay a while.

Some news of interest to some of you.....................................

Summer ended in New England last night. Temps dipped to 30 degrees.

My deck thermometer at moment is indicating that it's 30 degrees in my back yard. Lawn irrigation system was winterized yesterday and I drained and winterized the hot tub on Wednesday. If this is the start of the white weather, I got in just in the nick of time.

Summer is over here in Barstow too.
We dropped into the 90's this week.....
BK thinks his central NH location represents all New England. Today's low a few miles south of Boston is 50. I don't have heat on and still have shorts on around the house.

More south than central.

Watching Boston 10 this morning at 6:00 and they were showing everywhere in MA as in the 30's. Maybe they were spot picking to make an emphasis. At 11:00 here in Manchester it was 46.

Actually he is more S. New Hampshire real close to the Massholes, poor guy.
